Tomblaine
Tomblaine is a common French, located in the department of Meurthe-et-Moselle and the area Lorraine.
The inhabitants are called the Tomblainois .
Geography
Tomblaine is located at the North-East of France, in the suburbs is of Nancy. The commune is separated from the town of Nancy by the Meurthe.
History
The history of the site of Tomblaine goes back at least to 500 years before Jesus Christ.
Origin of the name
Various theses are advanced;
-
barbarian people, Alains, would have been put in parts by the Romains on this place from where the name given instead of the combat Tumulus Alanorum (the Tomb of Alains).
- Another thesis is advanced, the name of the village in gallic language would mean high place located close to a marsh or a water cluster. Tom : dam, mud, silt and Blaen or blen : border, high place.
At the XVIIe century, wars and famines seem to have been the batch of Tomblaine. In 1780 the castle of Tomblaine belongs to the lord Cerf Beer.
The city was destroyed in 1944 by German.
The bridge of Tomblaine
Since 1540 approximately, a vat ensured the crossing of Tomblaine Nancy. At the beginning of the XIXe century this one crossed the river upstream bathe strong appraisal of the Nancy ones. The restricted number of bridges on the Meurthe being felt, Mister the Baron Buquet, who will become mayor of Nancy under the second Empire, undertakes with his expenses the construction of the Pont of Tomblaine. The first stone was posed by it by Miss Marie Buquet in 1842. Work was carried out by Mr. Solet, contractor in Nancy, and engineers Jaquiné and Duhoux. The bridge will be with Péage until in 1896, date on which it was repurchased by the town of Nancy.
It would seem that the bridge suffered damage during the 2nd world war: a Arche would have been destroyed.
Blazon
Adopted in 1969, the blazon of the town of Tomblaine is created by Felix Engel (to see the original blazon). It marks its republican character with the Phrygian cap and posts the colors of the French Drapeau. The two nets waves represent the Meurthe and the the Moselle.
