Tim Drake

Timothy " Tim" Drake is a Super-héros pertaining to the Univers cd. which, as a Robin , is the partner of Batman. However, he is also a young hero living his own adventures. Tim is current Robin, third of the name.

Biography

Origins

After the death of Jason Todd, cd. Comics was in a delicate situation. Indeed, the readers had chosen to eliminate Jason Todd, but for which true reason? Because they did not love the character of Jason Todd or quite simply by challenge in order to see whether cd. would be able to kill a hero? ( cf: Batman: In Death in the Family ) Moreover, the film Batman of 1989 did not mention Robin, which gave a reason moreover to cd. Comics to get rid of the character. Being unaware of all that, Denny O' Neil, the editor as a chief of cd., decided to reintroduce new Robin.

Tim Drake, which will become third Robin, initially appeared in flashback in Batman #436 (1989). Drake was a 13 year old little boy who was fascinated by the adventures of Batman and Robin. It managed to establish the link between Flying Graysons and Dick Grayson, first Robin. At the nine years age, Tim Drake had succeeded in discovering the true identity of Batman and Robin, simply thanks to his talents of detective, and by looking at them fighting against the Pingouin on a video of remote monitoring. On this video, Tim sees Robin carrying out a quadruple jump. Tim had seen Dick Grayson carrying out this jump at the time of the last representation of Flying Grayson. It was thus obvious for Tim that Robin was not other than Dick Grayson.

Years after, when Batman sank more and more in violence following the death of Jason, Tim went to see Dick in order to try to convince it to take again its role as a Robin. Dick agreed to assist Batman again, but by keeping its new identity of Nightwing. Tim, not very satisfied with the reaction Dick, remained persuaded that Batman needed Robin. Finally, it managed to convince Alfred to help it. This last got to him a costume of Robin, and Tim as a Robin, fu an essential component in the capture of Double-Face

Dick and Alfred realized that Tim, in addition to being excellent Robin, was guaranteeing emotional stability of Batman. Although Batman was not very inclined to have another partner, he admitted unwillingly that Tim had a strong potential. Followed of months of the physical and psychological tests.

However, well before Tim does not take officially its role of Robin, his/her parents, Jack and Janet were captured by unpleasant called a " Obeah Man". Batman came to their rescue, but not before the latter are not poisoned. Janet died and Jack remained many months in the coma. Batman, being afraid that Tim is avauglé by the rage and revenge, reconsidered its decision to engage it like Robin. However, Tim proved reliable when it delivered Batman and Vicki Vale claws of the scarecrow. He became thus new Robin.

The drive abroad

In addition to the series Batman , Drake is first Robin to have his own series. (initially a mini series, then a regular series)

The mini-series Robin (on five issues of January in May 1991, written by Chuck Dixon and scenarized by Tom Lyle) was created immediately after the " nomination" of Tim Drake like Robin. Batman, being always afraid that Tim does not repeat the errors of the Robin precedent, sent it to Paris to follow lessons of Martial arts in the Master Rahul LAMA. There, he learned art from the cure and the combat. Unfortunately, Tim was found in the middle of a combat implying the criminal organization of King Snake, Ghost Dragons. It met Clyde Rawlins, an old agent of DEA. In a completely unexpected way, he realized that they were not only on the traces of King Snake. Lady Shiva, the assassin of international repute, wished to test its capacities against King Snake. Shiva lady seen however that Tim had a strong potential of combatant, and decided to take it under its wing. She also learned how to him to make use of a Bo (Bo which it currently uses is a gift of Shiva Lady).

During this time, King Snake manufactured a violent one virus. Rawlins, Shiva and Robin tried to stop it, but Snake succeeds in fleeing with samples. It was tracked to HongKong, where Rawlins lost the life. King Snake was stopped, and Shiva ordered in Robin to carry out it. She considered that the fact of killing a man would be the ultimate achievement of Robin. This last refused. Shiva killed King Snake.

More than one simple Development

When Robin returned to Gotham City, it began officially its career of partner of Batman. It was entitled to another mini-series, Robin II: Joker' S Wild (October in December 1991), in which Tim faces only the murderer of Jason Todd, the Joker. The third mini-series, Robin III: Cry off Huntress (December 1992 in March 1993) in which Tim and Huntress must face King Snake, which had not died. This history was anchored more in the difficulties of Robin of living his double statute of teenager and hero, especially compared to his father who hardly left the coma.

The popularity of the mini-series led cd. to launch a regular series in November 1993, releasing Robin of the Batman-esque influence finally. Robin had his own enemies, the Cluemaster, and the General. They were Chuck Dixon and Tom Grummett which dealt with the series.

Meanwhile, Jack Drake, the father of Tim, left the coma but lost the use of its lower extremities. The fact of finding themselves handicapped and of having lost his wife gave him the desire for approaching his/her son. Indeed, the fact that Tim is close to Bruce Wayne created between him and his/her father a conflict. However, they were reconciled.

Thanks to the assistance of Doctor Dana Winters, Jack Drake found the use of its legs. Although Dana is younger than Jack, they left together. It was extremely beneficial for Tim and Jack, Dana ensuring a bond between them. Jack and Dana married.

Young Justice and Teen Titans

Like Dick Grayson, Tim Drake was made many allies among the other hero. He worked with Superman, Wally West, Superboy and Bart Allen. Robin, Superboy and Impulse were combined to face super-unpleasant. Their association functioned so that they decided to create their own team of superman, Young Justice. Robin became the leader of the team.

However, when JLA had discovered that Batman had files on them; Superboy, Wonder Girl, Arrowette and Impulse had doubts about the intentions of Robin. However, Young Justice separates following death from Donna Troy. Cyborg, Starfire and Beast Boy tried to convince Robin, Superboy, Wonder Girl and Impulse to reform the Teen Titans. Although Cyborg took the post of leader of the Titans, Robin was often regarded as the leader of the youngest members, going even against the Titans " vétérans".

Identity Crisis and Blüdhaven

In Identity Crisis , Tim and the other hero try to protect their friends and family following the attacks to the members from the League of Justice of America.

One night, when Batman and Robin inquire into these crimes, they receive a transmission of Oracle in which she says that the father of Tim must absolutely speak with his son. It proves that a foreigner penetrated in the apartment of Drake, leaving a gun with a note in which it is written that it must be protected. It is in fact Captain Boomerang which was embusqué. The drama occurs and Jack Drake and Captain Boomerang are entretuent. Tim shares the same sad fate that Dick Grayson and Bruce Wayne knew, the loss of the parents.

After Identity Crisis , Bruce Wayne proposes to adopt Tim, which was not especially charmed an idea. In order to avoid that, it falsifies documents to create an uncle becoming his legal guardian. He moves with Blüdhaven, where his/her mother-in-law for mental problems following the murder of Drake Jack is hospitalized. Although Tim managed to cover its traces, Bruce discovers the truth. Tim is surprised reaction of Bruce, which is not in anger, but rather impressed by the talents of Tim. These events reconcile them, and Tim finally agree to be adopted by Bruce Wayne.

Robin vs. Robin

New unpleasant appears in Gotham under the name of Red Hood, an identity used previously by the Joker. It appears that this Red Hood is actually Jason Todd, however declared for a long time dead.

To be able and capacities

Tim excels as a detective, thanks to his intelligence largely higher than the average. That was proven when he discovered the secret identities of Batman, Nightwing, Jason Todd, Huntress, Captain Marvel (cd.) and of many others, without any outside assistance.

Costume and équipment

The costume of Tim Drake is slightly different from those of Grayson and Todd. Batman wanted to increase the protection of the costume. Its tunic is a armor, and it has varied equipment, like a Shuriken in form of " R" , of the batarangs, Bo (its principal weapon), like various other object of its composition.

Private life

At the beginning of its career, which separates Drake from other Robin is the fact that his/her parents are still in life when it begins his career; his/her mother however, is assassinated before Drake becomes Robin.

The friends of Tim are Conner Kent, Cassandra Sandsmark, Bart Allen, Wonder Girl. Tim is very close to Dick Grayson with which it shares a very fraternal relation. The preferred hero of Tim is Ted Kord which it met via Barbara Gordon.

Moreover, Tim had a rather complex love affair with Stéphanie Brown, alias Spoiler. When it temporarily had to stop its career of Robin, it replaced it a time, then was returned by Batman and was killed.
