Tie-beam

The Tie-beam (or Drawing) - term of Frame - of the firm is an element. It is a horizontal piece of wood being used to retain the principal rafters, and which is posed at the ends on the gouttereaux walls, if required in a recess (which lets pass the air around tie-beam, to avoid rotting).

The tie-beam supports the Poinçon. When are present the struts the connection between these two parts is only used to maintain the elements of the firm in the same plan, i.e. the punch does not transmit a vertical force to tie-beam. In certain cases, one can thus remove the punch, one speaks then about false-tie-beam .

In the metal frames, the tie-beam can be replaced by simple cables or ties .
