Thomas of Savoy-Carignan
Thomas of Savoy , born with Turin the December 21st 1595, died in Turin the January 22nd 1656 was prince de Carignan of 1620 with 1656, and count de Soissons of 1641 with 1656. It was wire of Charles-Emmanuel Ier Large the , duke of Savoy and prince de Piémont, and of Catherine Michelle of Spain. He is the author of the family of Savoy-Carignan.
It ordered in 1635 the Spanish S against France, and lost the battle of Avein (1635) against the marshals of Châtillon and Brézé. But in 1638, it beat the Maréchal of the Force, and made him raise the seat of Saint-Omer.
Its ambition caused disorders in Savoy with died of his/her older brother Victor-Amédée Ier, because he asserted with his brother Maurice the regency of the duchy against the widow Christine of France, but the support of France confirmed Christine as regent. Reconciled with this one, it approached France, which entrusted to him an army in Italy (1642) and had Turenne under its orders during some time. It was named généralissime armies of France and of Savoy in Italy, made the war successfully, and accepted Mazarin, in reward, the load of Grand Master of France, after the disgrace of Condé.
He died in Turin in 1656, in a forwarding undertaken to help the Duc of Modena, attacked by the Spaniards.
He married with Paris the April 14th 1625 Marie de Bourbon-Cop (1606 † 1692), countess of Soissons, girl of Charles of Bourbon, count de Soissons and of Dreux, and Anne de Montafié. They had:
