The Thierrens business
The village is known in the history of the Revolution of Vaud by the event which caused the entry of the French troops in Switzerland, on January 28th, 1798.The general Ménard, commander of these troops which occupied the Country of Gex to support the claims presented by the Of Vaud ones to the Bernese Government, sent on January 25th his aide-de-camp Autier to the Weiss general, in Yverdon, chief of the troops in charge of the defense of LLEE of Bern, to summon it to evacuate the Country of Vaud. The Autier adjudant passed by Lausanne and Moudon. Accompanied by the citizens De Trey and Perdonnet, members of the Assemblies provisional and escorted by two French hussards and two dragons of Vaud Briod and Chenevard, it leaves Moudon in the evening of January 25th and arrived very late close to Thierrens at the place called the Cross. The communiers of Thierrens - people of Moudon had come to utter insults the night before - had organized a middle-class guard of a score of men to defend, possibly, the locality against of new attacks. A patrol was on the eminence of the Signal, in the east of the village, close to the road of Moudon. She heard the noise of the car in which Autier was, De Trey and Perdonnet, and the step of the horses of the escort. She returned in all haste by a way of dévestiture at the edge of the road, à' the place where the property of the Chevalley family is, to recognize the newcomers. It is at this place that the dispute took place following which both hussards were killed. The Chenevard dragon had the arm fractured by a ball and Samuel Genier, of Thierrens, a blow of saber in the figure. The Autier adjudant returned precipitately in Moudon with his two companions while the Briod dragon continued only its voyage on Yverdon with the message intended for the Weiss general and people of Thierrens collected Chenevard to give him first aid. Desired the Ménard general to see in the business of Thierrens a manifest violation of the international law, an ambush organized against an official envoy of the “Great Nation”, whereas it was rather about a misunderstanding. It consequently gave to its troops the order to penetrate in the Country of Vaud.
