Literature of Theodor Storm
Storm drew initially its literary inspiration in the legendary accounts of the popular tradition, but also in authors like Eduard Mörike, of which it was friendly and correspondent, or Paul Heyse, with which it also bound during his exile. Its first poems were published in a collective work, Livre of songs of the three friends (1843), with those of his/her friend of childhood Theodor Mommsen. They express its love without hope for a boyfriend of its sister, Bertha Buchan, eleven years old. With Immensee (1851), a nostalgic news and melancholic person on the lost paradise of childhood, he affirmed his talent and gained a certain notoriety. Influenced by the first lyric poems of Goethe, he sought to translate in his work his sights on the love, nature and his attachment impassioned in Germany. Its step was been useful by an at the same time evocative and simple, remarkable style by its musical quality as by its formal perfection.
Maturity coming, it showed in its news a large smoothness for the psychological examination, a realism more marked and an increasing interest for problems exceeding the individual. Among this news, let us quote Viola will tricolora (1874), Aquis submersus (1876), Renate (1878) or Heinz Kirch (1882). He wrote on late tragedy which is perhaps its masterpiece, the Man with the white horse (1888).
