the red Violin is a film carried out by François Girard presented in 1998, a coproduction of the Canada, Italy and Great Britain.
Synopsis
Nicolo Bussotti, main violin maker of Casement bolt, finishes in 1681 a Violon which it intends for his son to be born. But his wife dies tragically in layers after a fortune-teller revealed the future to him and it is besides through the charts of the tarot that each chapter of the history of the instrument is introduced. Bussotti then will varnish the instrument with the blood of the late one, and the heart of the latter will accompany from now on the destiny by this exceptional violin. To Vienna first of all, in the enclosure of an orphanage directed by monks, where the instrument will be entrusted to a small wonder in the middle patient, quickly completed by the cane of a Master of too ambitious French music. Through mountains, plains and seas then, when gipsies will plunder fall it from the small wonder and… to make travel the violin, which will be found with Oxford where a declining aristocrat will acquire it and perpetuate his destiny. To Shanghai finally, into full Cultural revolution, where the girl of a former professional musician, itself partisane of the mode of Mao, will refuse to destroy the instrument in homage to her mother (who had had it), and will entrust it to an old professor music despaired by oppression. To finish, a generation later, after the instrument is found in this Chinese professor - deceased in his attic with the right in the middle of a vast secret collection of instruments in all kinds - the authorities will entrust the violin to a company of auction of Montreal where an expert with the sharpened eye will recognize, which was its wish expensive, true Bussotti. At the time of the final sale of the Red Violin, and thanks to the contest of an employee of the analysis laboratory of the Duval company, this expert will succeed in substituting in extremis the single copy of the instrument (which he itself will repurchase of a private collection of London) to the original… and this last will offer to his/her daughter, thus achieving, three centuries later the fabulous destiny of this magic instrument.
