The magic Mountain
the magic Mountain ( Der Zauberberg ) is a Romance written in 1924 by Thomas Mann; he is regarded as one of the most influential works of the German literature of the 20th century.
A film according to this novel is carried out in 1982 by Hans W. Geißendörfer with Christoph Eichhorn, Marie-France Pisier, Rod Steiger and Charles Aznavour. A radiophonic serial diffused by the radio Frenchwoman France Culture into 1972,1989 and 2001 met also in scene various characters of this novel (adaptation of Michel Manoll, realization of Georges Godebert, with Pierre Vaneck, Jean-Marie Fertey, Jean Topart, Pascal Mazzotti, contest of the Swiss Company of Broadcasting).
The book, whose intrigue proceeds with the whole beginning of the 20th century, reports the singular experiment of Hans Castorp, young engineer de Hambourg come to return visit to his/her cousin Joachim Ziemssen, cleans some at the alpine resort of Davos. The hero, fascinated by the microcosm of “people of in top” and rocked by their rhythm of life, also finishes by contracting a quite singular pathology to him… Its stay gives the opportunity to him to discover a gallery of characters incarnating each one a facet of the time: the Settembrini Italian, lawyer of the Reason and Progress; the mystic Jesuit Naphtha, contemptuous relentless of the middle-class company; the hedonist Peepenkorn and his bewitching partner Clawdia Chauchat. Shaken and transformed by this beam of influences, Hans Castorp will go down again of the Magic Mountain to only plunge with violence in the First World War.
