The Roots
The Roots is a formation of Hip hop American, founded in Philadelphia in 1987 by Black Thought (alias Tariq Trotter) and? uestlove (alias Ahmir Thompson).
The other members were or are the following: AJ Shine, HUB (alias Leonard Hubbard), Maldog One the Keys (alias Kamal Gray), Knuckles (alias Frank Walker), Capt (alias Kirk Douglas), Malik B (alias Malik Abdul-Basit), Rahzel (The Godfather Off Noyze), Scratch (alias Kyle Jones), Ben Kenney, Kid Crumbs, Josh " The Rubberband" Abrams, Martin Luther.
The Roots multiplied collaborations with many artists: Erykah Badu, Cody Chesnutt, Common, D' Angelo, Guru, J Dilla (alias Jay Dee), Mos Def, Bahamadia, Jill Scott, or more recently Al Green.
The roots (meaning " racines") is formed thanks to the meeting between Black Tought and? uestlove. Their music presents several kinds: hip hop, rap, jazz, as well as acoustics. The group is an exception in the hip-hop medium, by the presence of instrumentalists on scene and their sober step. They in addition developed, within the framework of the design of albums, the technique consisting with sampler (to sample) the music which they play themselves in studio. Technique also used by the square of producers The Soulquarians, formed by their beater Ahmir Thompson, D' Angelo, the keyboard James Poyser and the producer of Hip-hop J Dilla, with the rod of two major albums and sonorities very Drunk: Like chocolate toilets for of Common and Voodoo of D' Angelo.
Anecdotes

Since its beginnings, the group observes a small mathematical ritual for each one of its new albums! With each innovation, the tracklisting begins again where it had been left at the end preceding opus. Thus for last the LP in date Range Theory , the first song (" Dilltastic Flight Won (derful) ") do not carry the number " 1" on the small pocket but the number " 114" resulting from the addition of all the titles studio left since 1993.
