- the the Rhineland-Palatinat, Rheinland-Pfalz .
The Land of the Saar also forms however part of the Rhineland.
History
The Rhineland was burst a long time between multiple political entities, such as:- the Electorate of Cologne
- the Electorate of Trier
- free cities of Empire of Aachen and Cologne
- duchies of Clèves, Gueldre, Juliers and Berg
- counties of Marck and Moers
- évêché of Whorl
- part of the Palatinat of the Rhine
The Prussia, which had already a foot in this area, was made allot by the Congrès of Vienna in 1815 these territories, except for the Rhenish Palatinat, which went to the Bavaria.
In 1816, the Rhineland was organized by Prussia in two provinces: the Grand Duchy of the Low-Rhine and the province of Juliers-Clèves-Berg. In 1824, these two provinces were joined together to form the Rhenish Province or the Prussian Rhineland.
In 1920, the the Saar and the cantons of Eupen and Malmedy were detached from it.
It was divided into two by the Alliés in 1946: the northern part, in British zone of occupation, was attached to the Westphalia to form the new Land of Rhineland-of-North-Westphalia, while the southern part, in zone of French occupation, was associated with the Rhenish Palatinat and the Rhenish Hesse to form the Rhineland-Palatinat.
