The Priest of Cucugnan

New exit of the Letters of my Mill , the Priest of Cucugnan is an exception, because it is not resulting from the imagination of Alphonse Daudet, but contrary to other news where he hid that they were more or less largely due to Paul Arène, he recognizes this fact in the incipit. The first version of the priest of Cucugnan was written by Hercules Birat born in Narbonne in 1796, in its Narbonnese poetries under the title ''' the sermon of the father Bourras ''' who will be taken again by Achille Mir, by Joseph Roumanille and by Frederic Estre but the version most famous remainder that of Alphonse Daudet who is only the translation of the tale of Roumanille.

Authors

The author recognizes very honestly that it found in the Almanach of Provence , written by this large gueusard of Roumanille . Many readers do not believe it. It is however rigorously exact, and the text of Daudet is a simple translation of the news, written in Provençal. Daudet shortened only the text, omitting a passage where the stratagem used by the Curé is described so that all the Village comes to listen to its Sermon.

In fact, the Félibre of Provence Roumanille had taken as a starting point itself another author, Blanchot de Brennas, going until translating literally certain passages, because Brennas had written in French. However, Roumanille brought much Humor and of charm to this history.

Summary

The village of Cucugnan is located in the Aude, enough far from the Provence. It reigns there an unhealthy climate, and the Foi is not present any more there. The priest tells in his sermon that he dreamed that he went to the Paradis and did not find the inhabitants of Cucugnan there; he found them in Enfer. He makes the project then confess all the village and gives again faith and life at the whole village.
