The Isley Brothers
The Isley Brothers is an Afro-American group which began its career with heights] (Ohio) at the beginning from the Années 1950. Since their first enregitrements in 1955, Isley Brothers continued to remain active in repertories varied such as the Gospel, the Doo-wop, R&B, the Soul, the Funk, the Rock-and-roll and the Disco. The group at least once has the record to have placed a title in Signal 100 of Billboard magazine per decade between the years 1950 and the years 2000. They are also one of the groups of which the titles are taken again and Samplés in the history of the music.
Difficult beginnings (1955-1968)
At the beginning, the group is composed of four brothers (O' Kelly, Rodolpho, Ronald and Vernon Isley) who make the training of the song to the church. However the quartet will be tiny room to a trio following the tragic death of Vernon. The group will be a formation which will know only little success up to 1962, year when " appears; Twist and shout" who will be taken again thereafter by several other groups whose one celebrates quartet of Liverpool. 1964 mark a new beginning for the group because it will found its own label: T-Neck. Isley Brothers will count moreover in their formation certain Jimmy James, which will become famous under the name of Jimi Hendrix. Unfortunately, not being able to carry out a hit they will sign with famous the Motown where they will compose (under the production of the TEAM Holland, Dozier & Holland) a tube " This old heart off mine" in 1966. But badly at ease in the internal organization, they will leave Motown and will settle in New York City.
A revival (1968-1973)
Within a new recording company Buddah records, the group will modify its music: of a group of doo-wop they start to deliver of the drunk person funk similar to Sly & family Stone or James Brown. It is necessary to note moreover the contribution (nonofficial) of the little brothers Isley, Ernie (an excellent guitarist) and Marvin (an extraordinary bass player) as of their brother-in-law Chris Jasper who uses a recent instrument for the popular music of the time, the synthetizer… Thus, they will compose " It' S your thing" , " work to Do" " Get into Something" between 1969 and 1971 which will be great successes funk.
The golden age (1973-1983)
At the end of their contract at Buddah Records, the group will sign at Epic, where he will know a series of phenomenal successes. That starts in 1973 with " 3+3" who is the founding document of the entry of the " three small Isley" (Ernie, Marvin and Chris To marble) in the group. " will follow; Live It up" (1974) " The heat is on" (1975) where the group will deliver social comments on the problems encountered by Afroaméricains. In 1976 " comes; Harvest for world" positive album of funk, 1976 being one pivotal year because that where the USA celebrate to them 200 years of existence. Will follow then a series of album to the sustained rhythm of one per annum until 1983.
It should be noted that each album takes again a groundwork, namely a part with songs funk (then disco music) and another with slow fox trots where the guitar of Ernie, the low one of Ernie and the synthetizer Chris Jasper will have an increasingly dominating role; this evolution will be of more audible with the approach of the Eighties.
However, in 1983 after the publication of " between the sheets" (traditional as a basis funk samplé being used for " big poppa" of notorious BIG) the implose group. " small Isley" make scission and will form their own " group; IsleyJasperIsley" group which will publish two albums but only a memorable hit " will know; Caravan off Love" (in 1984). " Old man isley" they will leave Masterpiece in 1985 then " Smooth sailin" , particular album because published after the death of O' Kelly in 1986. Rudolph withdraws show business to turn to the religion. Ron Isley is only found.
The solitary crossing will last a few years but Isley brothers will always leave the discs between 1989 and 1996 when it will be reduced to a trio, Ron being joined by Ernie and Rudolph. In 2001, the group will sign " Eternal" album with the title rather well selected. Follow-up in 2OO3 by " Body kiss" then in 2005 by " Baby makin music".
An exceptional longevity
One can notice that Isley Brothers will have known an exceptional career which will have led them doo-wop to the explosion of Motown, the drunk person funk, the disco music and even to the g-funk, the whole in 50 year old meadows of career. They are indeed contemporaries of Marvin GAYE, James BROWN and so much of others… It as should be noted as the group is often quoted like reference by certain groups g-funk like above the law, and Warren G even will invite Ron Isley to him to sing on his tube " Smokin me out" (piece which is based on a sample of a song of Isley coolin' me out ). Moreover, with the listening of pieces like " take me to the next phase" or " caravan off love" one can perceive premises of g-funk in the orchestration with this so particular sound obtained by the synthetizers.
