The Great Jump

the Great Jump (original title The Hudsucker Proxy ) (1994) of the type ruined comedy is a comedy carried out by the Joel and Ethan Coen. Synopsis

Following the Suicide of the founder of a large company (taking again the history of died of Elihu Menashe Blachowitz in 1975), the board of management of this one assembles a plan intended to take control of it by repurchasing the actions of fire the founder at low prices before those are put on sale at the public.

The directors thus install a young person and naive diploma of one business school to the head of the company in order to cause a drop in temporarily the course of the action. A journalist, sent to learn some more on this unknown hides his identity to him to gain his confidence. Unfortunately for the plan of the directors, the company finally meets even more success than before when the invention of the new president, the Hula hoop is a fulgurating success.

Origins

Whereas they tried to sell Blood Simple after having carried it out, the Frères Coen divided a house with Sam Raimi. They then finished writing the Great Jump . They envisaged to make this film since 1985, but they needed an important budget for that. They thus approached the producer Hollywoodien Joel Silver who had been some success with action films with large budget and which was interested to work with them.

The Frères Coen had the ambition to make a film for the general public which is massively seen. The only influence of Silver on the Frères Coen was to convince them not to film in black and white. It convainquit Warner Brothers to finance film in their making gleam a film which would be appreciated as much by the critic as by the general public. The studio accepted in the condition that the Frères Coen choose large star for the titles roles. Joel Silver protected the Cohen brothers from the influence of the studios and managed to leave them the hand on the final assembly.
