The Franc-tireur (film, 1972)

the Franc-tireur is a French film of Jean-max Causse of 1972.

History

1944. In France, the German occupation seems on the way to be completed. But, even in this context, Michel Perrat does not intend to play the heroes. After being itself somewhat enriched thanks to small traffics with the occupant, Michel left to take refuge in his grandmother, in the Vercors, to await the end of the war wisely. But on July 21st, the German troops take by storm the plate of Vercors, active hearth of resistance which they intend to clean. The grandmother of Michel is killed. He escapes, continued by a soldier, whom he manages soon to eliminate. In escape, Michel meets a group of men of the maquis. While cynically remaining clear on its individualistic position, it joint with them to flee the plate. Then begin long equipped, sown multiple ambushes. With each attempt at exit, the group loses men. One of them, disguised as a peasant, is sent as a scout downtown. But it is taken, and denounces his friends. During this time, those found refuge in a farm. Michel sleeps there with the sister of the farmer, forsaking his guardroom. In the morning, the group, surprised by the arrival of the Germans, is mainly decimated. Soon, they will not be any more that three, and will go enliser in a stone labyrinth from where, finally, Michel will be the only one to arise alive.

The “scandal” of the festival of Grenoble in 1986

The Franc-tireur was to be presented to the official reception of closure festival of film of Grenoble of 1986. Three days before the date envisaged of projection, the Dauphiné Libéré publishes on first page an article of the president of Old of Vercors, judging that the film is only a “unnamable pantalonnade which goes from feast in feast, of couchery in couchery, drinking bout in drinking bout”. The mayor of Villard-with-Lans even announced that it prohibits the projection of film in his commune. Vis-a-vis the general outcry, the film is déprogrammé… and falls down in anonymity. 2002 will see its return to the poster of some rooms with only six copies.
