The Field-marshal von Bonaparte
the Field-marshal von Bonaparte is a test uchronic of the academician French Jean Dutourd.
Synopsis
In his test, Jean Dutourd seeks the causes of the size and the decline of the French. He thinks of finding them in the French revolution and his consequences. From there, the author passes to the Uchronie:- to avoid the Revolution such as it took place, he imagines if Louis XVI had acted differently and accepted a constitutional Monarchie;
- to avoid the risk of catch being able by “adventurers” during the few years of transition, it removes an event of the real history: the purchase of the Corsica by the France.
It is the latter change of the course of the history which justifies the title of the test and which motivates the author: Napoleon Bonaparte would then have made its studies in territory génois, and of needle and thread, would have made its military career with the service of the emperors. Become field-marshal of Austria, it would ensure the safety of the empires and kingdoms of Europe, rather than to seek to call into question the established order.
The work finishes on a description of the life of the field-marshal in his palate of Vienna.
