The Far East

The the Far East designates the oriental party of the Asia. It includes/understands:

• the East Asia;
• the Southeast Asia;
• is Russia.

The term is sometimes used as synonym of East Asia. However, its use is not recommended any more in French (although of use still rather frequent), in particular in university geography. The only case where the use of this term does not pose any problem is for the French École of the Far East.
