the Expression of the emotions in the man and the animals ( The Expression off the Emotions in Man and Animals ) is a book of the Naturaliste English Charles Darwin published in 1872, on the way in which the Animaux and the Humain S express and announce to the others them emotion S. With its other work, Filiation of the man and the selection related to the sex , this book belongs to the attempt at Darwin to raise questions about the origins and the psychology of the man while using his Théorie of the evolution species thanks to the process of Natural selection.
Whereas he writes variation of the animals and plants under the action of domestication in 1866, Darwin for including a chapter concerning the man there, but the book becomes so bulky that he decides to separately write a short test on the origins simiesque of the man, the selection by the sex and the expressions human. This test finally transform into two broad volumes of the Filiation of the man and the selection related to the sex . After having supplemented its work on the Filiation of the man while bringing there evidence in January 1871, Darwin begins a new book, by using the remaining ideas on the expression of the emotions.
It notes in its book the universal nature of the facial expressions: " … the young people and the old men of a very great number of races, that is at the animals or the human ones, express the same frame of mind with same the mouvements."
It is distracted by long revisions on the origin from the species , but in spring 1872 it publishes the Expression of the emotions in the man and the animals , which stresses an evolution shared between the species, contrasting with the book of Charles Bell, Anatomie and Physiologie of the Expressions which clamp that a divine being has to create the muscles of the face to express the human feelings.
Darwin receives answers of the whole world to his questionnaires, photographs of actors, infants, the delayed mental ones, it also makes observations on the expressions related to the sorrow at a endeuillée family. The evidence requires a major revision, which it " disgust subject, of him even and monde". It was one of the first books with photographs, seven boards heliotype. The editor, John Murray, informs that " would dig an important hole in the profits". the Expression of the emotions in the man and the animals was very popular and was sold with more than 5,000 copies.
