the Croissy-on-Seine is a common French of the department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France.

The inhabitants are called the Croissillons .

Geography

Located at approximately 11 kilometers in the west of Paris and at seven kilometers in the east of Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer, the commune of the Croissy-on-Seine is in a loop of the the Seine, in the convexity of the meander, on Right Bank of the river.

The communal territory extends on alluvial sediments, without marked relief, being staged from 35 to 30 meters of altitude of the North-East towards south-west. It is a strongly urbanized territory (approximately three-quarters). It includes the upstream part of the island of the Roadway.

The communes bordering are Chatou in north, Rueil-Malmaison, Bougival in the south, Louveciennes and the Port-Marly in south-west (these four last communes being located on left bank of the Seine), Pecq in the North-West and Vésinet in north.

The communications are assured mainly by the secondary roads RD 321 (directed North-South) and RD 121 (directed East-West) which lead to the bridges on the Seine (Pont of Pecq in the North-West, Pont of Chatou in the North-East and Pont of Bougival in the south.

On the railway level, the commune is served by a station of the RER has: “Chatou-Croissy” (located at Chatou).

History

At the 9th century, towards 845, the local population, which was devoted mainly to fishing, was massacred by the Normands which went up the Seine to attack Paris.

In 1793, Joséphine de Beauharnais remained there in a private mansion located at the 6 (a) Main street to protect itself from the Terreur.

At the XIXe century, Croissy, as its Chatou neighbor saw developing the fashion of canoeing on the Seine. A guinguette installed in the island of Croissy, the Snap fastener, was a great success until its destruction in 1889 by a fire. She was attended in particular by the impressionist painters , such as Degas, Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, Sisley…

Croissy was a long time a ground of market gardenings, whose products, in particular turnips and carrots, were delivered to the markets of Paris.

Cultural Demonstrations and Événements

the Festival of the Carrot It is the traditional festival of Croissy since the middle of the 19th century. Ancestral homage to the vegetable which made formerly the glory of this old market-gardening city, the festival takes place each year the second weekend of September. With the program: torchlight procession, fireworks, evening DJ, mass of the Saint Hackney carriage, procession of tanks with arm, contest of not identified travelling objects, great meal " ox carottes" , forum of associations, fun fair, cinema of outdoor (new in 2004)…

Romantic Festivals Since 1999, organized each year mid-October within the framework of the Saint-Léonard vault, the Romantic Festivals propose concerts, exposures, readings, master classes, spectacles around the musical and literary repertory romantic. Teaching concerts and animations on instruments of time.

Festivals of June The festivals of June became one annual key period that only the weather can oppose. Indeed, the spirit even of the demonstration lies in the outdoor, giving each year around on June 21st, before taste of holidays. Initially, the festival of the Music which invests the downtown area completely, then, the one weekend time, it is a whole succession of animations which flower: mini festival of theater, market of " creation; Art and the manière" , concerts of the council school of music, without forgetting, on the island, the festival of the Snap fastener with its environment ball haversack, rowers and guinguette…
