The Club of Damnés

The Club of damnés the ( Hellfire Club in original version) is an imaginary private club of the universe of the Comic S Marvel. The most influential members of this club are frequent adversaries of the X-Men.

Origin of the Club

The club of damnés was created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. It appears for the first time in Uncanny X-Men number 100 in 1976. Its name is drawn from a club having really existed at the 18th century. The characters of John Byrne, however, are largely inspired by an episode of Bowler hat and Leather boots: " The Club of the enfer" who re-uses in his intrigue the original club. Indeed, Claremont gives to the Brain the name of an actor of this episode (Wyngarde), and re-uses one of the costumes of Emma Peel by making some the wardrobe standard of the White and Black Queens of its series.

The members of the club come from the high society and are very influential people in the world of the policy or finance. The chart of member, once obtained, is transmitted by heritage in order to preserve the influential families in her center. For example, Iron Man, the family Braddock (Psylocke and his/her brother Captain Britain) or Warren Worthington III (more known under the name of Angel as X-Man) inherited their families of a chart of member, even if they consider this club obsolete and Kitsch. The club has branches with New York, Paris, HongKong and London.

Inside the club, there exists a secret council that nobody suspects. This Council off the Chosen gathers some people having decided to benefit from the influence of the club to conclude their own intentions. Famous then in " Ring intérieur" , the council gives names of parts of Jeu of failures to its members. Although in the beginning those is the human normal ones, they are replaced during the time by bad mutant which sees in this club a weapon to organize their plans of domination of the world.

The club of damnés runs up for the first time against X-Men when the interior Circle handles the spirit of Jean Grey/Phoenix and kidnaps several members of the team of the mutants. the Brain, believer to dominate Phoenix, loses the control of its victim and releases the Phoenix Noir (these events are known under the name of the Saga of the Phoenix Noir )

The intrigues and plots are multiple for the members of the interior Circle of the Club of damnés. It results from it from constant upheavals in the organization and the direction of the group. The position and the name of the known people are given below, as far as possible:

Some characters had access to the interior Circle without obtaining an official title. Thus, the Brain was probably a member of the club of long time and collaborated with the Circle. Later, Tessa, known under the name of Wise like member of X-Men, advised Shaw then Solar.

After the saga of the Black Phoenix, the club of damnés underwent many rehandlings since the direction of the interior Circle fell to Magneto, Shinobi Shaw and Selene, Sebastian Shaw then Roberto DaCosta.
