The Brothers Karamazov

The Brothers Karamazov ( БратьяКарамазовы ) is a novel of Dostoïevski published in 1880.

Regarded by several as a masterpiece (Sigmund Freud itself classifies it among the three greater dramas of the History), this book tells the history of 3 (even 4) wire of Fiodor Karamazov, and of the parricide made by one of them. Each of the three represents a ideal-type of the Russian company of the end of the 19th century: Alexeï (or Aliocha), the protagonist, is a man of faith; Ivan, his/her brother, is an intellectual; Dimitri (or Mitia), their elder half-brother, is a man of defect and passion, incarnating according to the " author; the man russe". The universe describes in this book is rather vast, cash tens of characters.

The account contains another account, second part, delivers V, chapter V, entitled Large Inquisiteur (the text on Wikisource). He reports a meeting in Spain, with the Rebirth, between a bishop, high figure of the Spanish enquiry, and Jesus, the first reproaching the second his return, which comes " déranger" the Church. This account, made by Ivan with his/her Aliocha brother, exposes the thesis of Ivan according to which Jesus, while resisting the temptation of the power, and thus leaving the free man choose to believe or not, was mistaken on the human nature and made the man unhappy; indeed, according to Ivan, the man is not God, and therefore he does not hate anything more than freedom. The bishop of the account represents the all-powerful Church which continued work of Christ but by canting it, i.e. by taking again this freedom with the man who, according to him, is some much happier.

Freud will say this work which it is about the " the most imposing novel which one never has écrit" ( Dostoïevski and the parricide ).
