Synopsis

Here, the animal with five fingers is the human hand, approximately tallied plane in each box.

The history is that of the execution on the Electric chair of a prisoner. One thus sees for example:

  • the hand of the prisoner with his shackles;
  • the hand of the geĆ“lier holding his keys then attaching the straps of the chair around the wrists of condemned;
  • the hand of the priest attending the execution, holding a Bible and a cross;
  • the hand of the torturer actuating the switch of the chair, etc

The technique employed by Thomas Ott is, like often, that of the Carte to scrape, the work is thus in black and white. In addition, the work does not include/understand a text. The author chose to fill each page with only one box. This cartoon is thus very similar in her form to the other publication of Thomas Ott in the same collection: the Customs .
