In horsemanship, “to go up in the Amazon ” means to overlap with the two legs on the same side of the Cheval. A special saddle is used. It is made up of only one clamp, on the left normally, on the right for the princesses and of two forks around which one rolls up his legs, the left in lower part and the right-hand side with the top. Until the 20th century, the women assembled almost all to the Amazon, their skirts preventing them from going up with - califourchon without showing their legs. Another reason of the birth of rides sidesaddle comes from the importance attached to the Virginité of the women before the marriage. Indeed it was considered for a long time that assembles it with - califourchon could cause a loss of virginity by tearing of fabrics.

The Amazon is also the name of the behavior carried by the riding ones, with a very curved jacket and a very long and wide skirt.

Today again assembles it to the Amazon east under development, in particular in England, France, but also in Spain and Belgium. There exist associations of riding in the Amazon in these countries which promote assembles it to the Amazon, that one also calls “goes up in the forks”.

In France, the French federation of horsemanship opened an Amazon Commission to contribute to develop teaching (passage of the gallops, management) and the practice in contest, officially codified in 2006.
