Théodose of Tripoli
Théodose of Tripoli (according to worm Eecke) or Théodose de Bithynie (born towards -160 in Tripolis, in the province of Bithynie - died towards -100) is an astronomer and Greek mathematician author of a treaty on the geometry of the sphere, the Sphériques . Vitruve allots the invention of a universal sundial to him (i.e. infiquant the hour independently of the place of use).
The Sphériques of Théodose, where the large circles of the sphere are named (equator, meridian lines) and where appears the concept of triangle spherical, are actually a treaty of astronomy. This work, which is commented on by Pappus in its mathematical Collections , is perhaps resulting from a former treaty of Eudoxe de Cnide. Francesco Maurolico made of it the translation in Latin in XVIe century.
