Tarja Turunen
Tarja Turunen is a lyric singer born the August 17th 1977 with Kitee, in Finland. It is mainly known to have been the singer of the symphonic group of Metal Nightwish. Since its exclusion of the group, it is devoted to its career in solo as a traditional singer.
Biography
It started to sing as of six years with the assistance of its professor, while taking courses of piano in parallel. It continued its studies in the university of music Académie Sibelius , with Kuopio where it started to learn the Flûte. Then it is with the college of Savonlinna that it opened with the theater and the traditional song which quickly became its matter of predilection. In 2002, it completed its studies of traditional song within the academy of music of Karlsruhe in Germany.
Tarja knows already Tuomas Holopainen, cofounder and clavierist of Nightwish, since its childhood. Indeed, they played both in the same formation of jazz at the elementary school. In July 1996, Tuomas proposed in Tarja to sing on the demonstration of its group, which will become the first album of Nightwish: Angels Fall First . When he intended it to sing, Tuomas was agreeably surprised. Indeed, the young girl who sang Jazz before a few years sang now as with the opera and made singing exercises. Its voice appeared very adapted to the compositions of Tuomas. Their first album was thus produced by Spinefarm Records. Tarja declares in an interview carried out for the magazine Métallian : “the traditional song mixture and metal were thus never premeditated since it (Tuomas) did not know at all that I sang this way, when I joined the group”.
In 2004, it leaves an individual solo Christmas carols entitled Yhden Enkelin Unelma (the dream of an angel).
The October 21st 2005 the four members decided to return Tarja of the group. Indeed, judging it too centered on the business and the money whereas Nightwish is before all the will to create an original music, the four musicians addressed a Open letter to Tarja in the slides, after the end of their last round End off year Era which was enclosed by a concert with Helsinki in front of nearly 12000 people. Tarja was said shocked by this decision, although she had acknowledged to want to leave the group at the conclusion of their next album planned for 2007. The four boys obviously did not want to await this date. Tarja also announced that it would thus continue its career alone. In 2006, Tarja Turunen left an album resumptions of traditional songs of Christmas. It then made a round in Finland and Russia.
November 19th, 2007, leaves the new album My Winter Storm . It was recorded in Grouse Lodge Studios (Ireland) with the producer Daniel Presley and his musicians: Torsten Stenzel (keyboards), Earl Harvin (battery), Alexander Scholpp (guitar), Doug Wimbish (low).
Tarja Turunen is married with Marcelo Cabuli, a Argentinian Businessman.
