In Medicine, the irritable colon (also called turbid functional intestinal ) is a group of inflammatory states of the colon and, in certain cases, of the Small intestine . It is an extremely frequent affection.

Diagnosis

Critêres diagnosis were developed (called ROME III): abdominal pains repeating at least three days per month during at least the last three months, these pains being relieved by the defecation and being accompanied by a modification by the rate/rhythm by the saddles and their consistency.

Many other symptoms can accompany the digestive signs: headaches, tires, irritability, symptoms urinary or difficult rules, depression…

The Clinical examination is appreciably normal but must seek a different cause with the described pains.

Epidemiology

This disease concerns nearly 10% of the world population, generally of the women between 20 and 40 years, being distributed so as to little close equal between the forms to prevalent constipation and that with prevalent diarrhea (the passage between these forms is frequent).

It has important economic costs, from the multiple consultations necessary, and sometimes, from the errors of diagnosis leading to an inappropriate treatment.
