Supergrass

Supergrass is a group of Rock English originating in Oxford. Created in 1992 in Oxford, the group comprised 3 musicians, of which Gaz Coombes (Guitare, Chant), Mickey Quinn (low) and Danny Goffey (battery), which were joined in 1997 (arrived explicit in the clip of Sun Hits The Sky) by Robert Coombes (Piano keyboards), brother of Gas Coombes. The group is success in the middle of the years 1990, in full period Britpop

Biography

(1991-1993) Beginnings

At the 16 years age, Gas Coombes and Danny Goffey form The Jennifers , with Coombes in the guitar and Goffey with the battery. The group forges a reputation on the scene oxfordienne, influenced by the Buzzcocks, the Jam, the Kinks, the Who and an amount of Punk. The group records even individual in 1992 on the label Nude Records , before separating.

Coombes meets Mick Quinn, a colleague in the restaurant in which he worked. It binds friendship with this musician amateur who plays in local groups. Coombes invites it to play with him and Goffey. In February 1993 Quinn joined officially the group, with low, Goffey with the battery, and Coombes which takes care of the song and the guitar. Together they form the Theodore Supergrass , quickly renamed Supergrass .

(1994-2000) Britpop period and success

Supergrass gives its first true concert to Jericho Tavern of Oxford. At the summer 1994, Supergrass leaves its first individual " Caught By The Fuzz " on a small independent label (Backbeat Records). The song speaks about a friend stopped by the police force in possession of Cocaïne. The 250 copies are sold quickly, partly thanks to the support of John Peel, radio presenter who diffuses the title. The group signs on the label Parlophone which leaves the individual one again, with the autumn 1994. Supergrass is - rare fact individual of the week at the same time in the magazines NME and Melody Maker.

In May 1994 leaves to them 1st album " I Should Coco" , which, thanks to individual the " Alright" who passes in loop on the waves enters the British signal ten with 500.000 sold specimens, and a million in the world.
