Superboy

Superboy is the name of several characters of Comic S whose adventures are published by cd. Comics.

Superboy (Kal-El)

Superman Junior

Superboy was in the beginning simply Superman child and was primarily treated like a version junior of Superman. Indeed, Superboy carried the costume of Superman and its Alter ego Clark Kent carried glasses like disguise for its civil identity. The character was created without the permission of the creators of Superman, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, which contributed to deepen a ditch already growing between them and the editor, cd. Comics.

Superboy appeared for the first time in More Fun Comics #101 (1944), moved then in Adventure Comics . In 1949 Superboy was entitled to its clean comics. It is at this time that the secondary people developed around the character. The only major characters to appear during the first years were Jonathan and Martha (or " My and Pa") Kent. The eighth episode of Superboy saw the first adventure of " Superbaby, " a character who extended the concept of " Superman Junior " with a small child equipped with super-capacities. The tenth episode of Superboy put in scene the first appearance of Lana Lang, a character who was going to become a romantic element for Superboy like for adult Superman. To the beginning of the year 1960, Pete Ross the best friend of Clark Kent and the Parker Chief of the Police force of Smallville were added to the supporting characters.

Localization

From Superboy #2, the adventures of Superboy proceeded with Smallville, the USA, a city whose exact localization was never specified in the stories of Superboy, although it is usually located near Metropolis (Smallville was located at the Kansas a few years after the original character of Superboy ceased being published, the localization of Smallville, as for other fictitious cities, is not permanent).

In the first stories, the period of time in which the adventures of Superboy had place was never clearly defined, certain adventures seeming to proceed the year the publication of the history (an example being a history of 1952 in which Lana Lang took part in the contest of " Miss Smallville 1952"). At the end of the years 1950, the leading person in charge of the Superman comics, Dead Weisinger, decided to locate all the adventures of Superman between the beginning and half of the years 1930 (because of the first appearance of Superman in 1938). With the beginning of the year 1970, the team in load of Superboy decided to update Superboy while placing the title in a temporal line floating, always placed 15 years or almost behind of the current year; thus the stories of the years 1970 putting in Superboy scene proceeded in the years 1950. Starting from the beginning of new the comics of Superboy in 1980, the time of the Steel Boy was still brought closer, to take seat at the end of the years 1960, beginning of the year 1970.

Enemies

Some of the enemies of Superman, like the unpleasant ones of the Phantom Zone, made their first appearances in the stories of Superboy, and others (as Mr. Mxyzptlk) appeared in younger versions. The most famous example is the young person Lex Luthor. In a history having to reveal the origins of hatred between Luthor and Superman, Lex Luthor was a teenager of the same age that Superboy, and both became better friends when Lex moved in Smallville. Superboy built a laboratory completely equipped for Lex so that this last carries out its experiments there, while he sought a solution with the vulnerability of Superboy to the kryptonite. However, when a fire in the laboratory of Lex forced Superboy to destroy an important experiment intended to save the life to him, the chemicals caused the fall of the hair of Lex. It held Superboy for person in charge of the destruction of his experiments and the loss of its hair, showing it to be jealous of its talent, and the Jura to prove in the world which it was higher than Superboy. For that it developed inventions having the aim of improving quality of life of the inhabitants of Smallville; unfortunately each invention produced harmful effects requiring the intervention of Superboy. This series of reverse, combined with the preceding accident with the laboratory, resulted in to determine Lex to dedicate its life to destroy Superboy. Consequently, Lex Luthor and Superboy were sworn enemies.

The Legion of the Supermen

A history of Superboy entitled " The Legion off Super-Heroes" in an episode of 1958 of Adventure Comics put in scene three teenagers equipped with super-capacities coming from the 30e century which offered to Superboy to become member of their club, the Légion of the Supermen. Although that was supposed being only one history without continuation, the characters were entitled to their own series in Adventure Comics starting from 1962. With the beginning of the year the 1970 comics Superboy started to regularly put in scene the Legion until the title is initially officially renamed Superboy and the Legion off Super-Heroes and finally Legion off Super-Heroes in 1980, évinçant Superboy of the comics completely. It was the series derived from the Superman titles which had the most success and survived during years through several incarnations.

Crisis

A new baptized series New Adventures off Superboy lasted of 1980 with 1984, and a mini-series of 4 episodes entitled Superman: The Secret Years (putting in Superboy scene lasting his years at the FAC, and how it changed its name into Superman) was published in 1985, after which the character of Superboy was removed continuity of Superman by the mini-series Crisis one Infinity Earths of 1985 - 1986 and the rewriting of the origins of Superman by John Byrne in 1986.

After Byrne, a new version of Superboy was briefly used like a means of preserving the continuity of the Legion of the Supermen, which had been damaged by the suppression by Byrne of the Superman career as Superboy. This version of Superboy was based on the pre-Crisis version, but was originating in an alternate universe of pocket created by an enemy of the Legion, the Piégeur of Time ( Time Trapper ). However, this Superboy was quickly killed (as one off sees it in Legion Super-Heroes (volume 3) #38).
