Sumi OJ is a South Korean Soprano born with Seoul the November 22nd 1962.
After having obtained diplomas of song and piano in its country, it comes in 1983 in Italy to study the song in Accademia di Santa Cecilia of Rome, in particular with the Ténor Carlo Bergonzi. It makes its beginnings in Teatro Verdi of Trieste in 1986 in the role of Gilda of Rigoletto . In 1988, it occurs for the first time at the Festival of Salzburg in the small role of Barberine of the Marriages of Figaro then it sings there the role of Oscar of the Bal masked and the Queen of the Night of the Magic Flute . Since then, she sang all the great roles of the repertory of Colorature like Lucia, Zerbinetta, Fiorilla, Amina, Elvira etc under the control of famous chiefs such as Georg Solti, Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel and Richard Bonynge.
Far from confining itself with the Queen of the Night that she practically sang in all the operas of the world like in many recordings, she approaches other kinds successfully as the French opera, that it is light (Auber, Adam, Offenbach) or deeper (Massenet, Gounod, Charpentier), which is appropriate particularly well for its voice.
Equipped with a voice exceptional colorature of which it uses apparently without effort, Sumi OJ can also characterize its characters combining a stamp shining with a high degree of accuracy in interpretation and it carries in particular much of attention to the drawing of the melody.
