Striped

The Tigré is the area located more at north of the Ethiopia. He is mainly inhabited by people of the ethnos group of the same name. Its chief town is Mék' it. The Striped one is next to the border of the Érythrée (independent since 1993), the Sudan in the west and the area Amhara in the south. Of another towns of importance of this area are Abiy Adi, Adigrat, Aksoum, Humera, Inda Selassié, Korem, Alamata, Maychew, Wukro and Zalambessa.

The Exchange Statistical Agency (Agency of the Statistics of Ethiopia estimated its population at 4.334.996 in 2005. Of a surface of 50.078 km ², the Striped one thus has a population density of 86,56 hab/km ². 95,5% of the population adhere to the orthodoxe Ethiopian Église, 4,1% are Moslem and 0,4% catholics. 94,98% of the population are Tigré ethnos group.

The Striped one is well-known for its churches cut with same the rock.
