Strætó bs.

Strætó bs. is the name of the company in load of public transport in the town of Reykjavík and its agglomeration. The company has 23 lines of bus including 6 lines known as “express train” which make it possible to quickly join the downtown area since the principal suburbs.

The company was founded in 2001 following the fusion of the two existing companies, Strætisvagnar Reykjavíkur and Almenningsvagnar which respectively served the north and the south of the agglomeration.

The frequency of the buses is from approximately 1 every 20 minutes at the rush hours and every 30 minutes at the off-peak hours. They circulate 7 a.m. (10 hours Sundays) at 11 p.m., sometimes later the weekends. These lines of bus remain relatively little used in this city, capital of a country where the number of cars per capita is one of highest in the world.
