Star Wars

the Star Wars (original title Star Wars ) is a tographic epopee Cinéma of Science-fiction created by George Lucas, considered as an element headlight of the Space operated.
Envisaged at the base to be a succession of three Trilogy S (a Triptych), Lucas was constrained, by techniques lack of means, to start with the second trilogy (the Épisode IV - a new hope ) in 1977. The series was a phenomenal success everywhere in the world and generated a very important community of fans. One generally quotes the following factors to explain success in spite of the lack of means (the budget was relatively modest, the almost unknown actors):
- it calls upon known and appreciated references young people of the time: Cloak and dagger films, Western S, Péplum S, fairy tales and even the Lord of the Rings of J.R.R. Tolkien; this work can be defined as a space mythical opera ;
- the special effects, supervised by Ken Ralston, were really innovators, with in particular the participation of John Dykstra (which also took part in first film of Star Trek ), which had developed a new manner of animating the models of the vessels by coordinating their movements by computer (Dykstraflex);
- the film developed a coherent universe, with, like constant concern, as much the creation of an environment that the action itself;
- music, composed by John Williams, introduced recurrent themes and Leitmotiv S (proceeded traditional but reinforcing coherence);
- many derivative products (models of vessels, figurines…) were marketed, in particular to finance the continuations of film (Lucas had succeeded in obtaining that the rights of the derivative products return to him after one year of exploitation by Fox);
- the distribution of film had been held at the same time as that of Carrie to the ball of the devil of Brian de Palma in 1975. George Lucas was even obliged to mortgage her own residence to finance film. The actor Alec Guinness agreed to play the part of Obi-Wan Kenobi for almost nothing, deciding, of this way, to be remunerated on the future receipts of film by his exit into the room (it also acted of a calculation: he had anticipated the commercial success of film);
- finally, Lucas having studied the history of the religions and civilizations, in particular through the works of the mythologist Joseph Campbell, built her first trilogy at the manner of a ancient Tragédie (with a hero victim of its passions), and the second on the principle of Initiation, recurring in any mythology, and which confer a matter and a depth to them going beyond simple the blockbuster .
The success of the saga made it possible George Lucas to build a financial empire: Lucasfilm, its production company, could join together financial means the sufficient ones to produce films with large budgets, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), its company of special effects, improved in a notable way the techniques as regards visual effects, and Lucas even made build a studio of recording for the bands its in 1987, the Skywalker Sound , (to which one owes famous certification THX) in its ranch (the Skywalker Ranch). It keeps a total control on the use of the characters of its films and on the derivative products (as anecdote, the French translation of the Roleplay Star Wars … was retranslated in English to check that the spirit had not been betrayed, a process already used, but contrary, for the translations of Astérix).
The will of cohesion between films was until altering the first three made films, by adding numerical incrustations, even while changing actor for a character (appearance of the father of Luke Skywalker at the end of the Retour of Jedi ). Into France, the name of the first of these films was also changed in order to respect the new nomenclature imposed by the episodes turned more recently: the Star Wars became Star Wars: episode IV - A new hope .
Universe of the Star Wars
The universe of the Star Wars is a scientist mixes ancient Rome, of Mythologie and high-technology. One finds there also certain winks with Japanese mythology at the time them samurais (See the helmet of Dark Vador).
The action proceeds it there has very a long time in a remote galaxy and is the theater of a ceaseless confrontation between the Bien and the Mal. The Good is defended by the Ordre Jedi , a caste of wise-warriors to the many psychic capacities (telekinesis, prescience…) that they draw from what they name the Force '' ''. But this one takes part of a duality presenting a Side Clair (or luminous ), used by Jedi, and a Côté '' Obscur ''.
Holding on the obscure side are Jedi blacks, of which in particular the Seigneurs of Sith , called thus because, it is very a long time, they had with their service the Sith people. Anger, hatred, the fear can carry out Jedi towards the obscure side of the Force if they are not able to dominate these impulses.

People and species
The galaxy which constitutes the universe of the Star Wars is made up many people.
The human race is overall most widespread (the majority of the inhabitants of Tatooine are human, just like Naboos or the Stormtrooper S which constitutes the armed with the Empire).
In the first edition of the trilogy, non-remasterized, the limitation of the special effects forced to have extraterrestrial races mainly humanoïdes, with easily realizable costumes. At the time of the exit of the trilogy in 1997, were added by computer much of other characters non-humanoïdes, mainly on broad levels.
Among the species playing a big role in films, one finds:
- of the Gungan S, kinds of “hippo-escargocéphales” to the body humanoïde, natives of Naboo (example: Gravel bank Gravel bank Binks);
- of the Wookiee S, hairy creatures of human stature, natives of Kashyyyk (example: Chewbacca);
- of the Ewok S, kinds of bear cubs, natives of the the Moon sanctuary of Endor (example: Wicket).
- of the Jawa S, the small animals encapuchonnées with brilliant yellow eyes: scrap merchants, they capture droïde S to resell them.
- the men of sands, terrible warriors of the desert of Junland on Tatooine sometimes carrying out raids on cities. They live in tribes in the mountains or the dunes of the desert. It is wandering people (example: A' Sharad Hett).
Also, there exist many races humanoïdes which can differ from the purely human race only by the color of the skin, that of the eyes, or other morphological characters which do not make of them beings basically different from human (example: Chiss or Anzati). Lastly, on the whole, the droïde S, of the intelligent robots, can be regarded in the universe as people with whole share. There is an infinite variety of it.
It there has also other species less known like Selkaths on Manaan, Hutt S which constitutes the empire of the crime (they are especially on Nal Hutta which means jewels of glory in Hutt), the Twi' Lek S on Ryloth…
Certain beings or droïdes are present in single specimen, without one knowing anything about their people (at least if one restricts oneself with films); it is the case, for example, of the biodroïde Grievous, démoniaque general affiliated to the Confederation of the Independent Systems. Although being a Cyborg, it does not accept the name of droïde and therefore it particularly does not love the members of the federation of the trade.
It is also the wisest case of Yoda, largest and of the Jedi Masters. The origin of its species is unknown, and one only once sees a being of this same species, Yaddle, also main Jedi. One can deduce from it that it is a particularly receptive species with the Force.
See detailed article Species of the Star Wars.
Translation
The original title of the saga is Star Wars ; some estimate that the literal translation would be Star Wars or even Star Wars , but Star can also be interpreted like an adjective, which gives the stellar Wars (moreover the Star Destroyer of the history are translated stellar Destroyers into V.F.). The French title is thus not a literal translation, but in other languages the translation is even more distant (in Spanish, Guerra of mow Galaxias i.e. the War of the galaxies ).Same manner, under-saga Clone Wars is called in French the War of the clones (one could literally translate the clonic Wars ).
The title “the Star Wars” was used in France including for certain derivative products (the first editions of the first novels of the wide universe employ this title). But starting from the exit of “the special edition” of the original trilogy (in 1997), the use of “Star Wars” became the rule including in France. The expression “the Star Wars” then indicates especially first film, and not the saga.
The translation of the names often posed problem. The first film proposed certain translations (Chewbacca in Chiktabbak, its diminutive becoming Chico) which were abandoned as of second film. Others were used in the translation of all the trilogy, but abandoned during the translation of the prelogy (R2-D2 in D2-R2, C-3PO in Z-6PO). The novels of the wide universe are divided: the majority, but not all, employing the original names of the robots, but very little employ the original name Han Solo instead of Yan Solo. The translation of the book the War of the swarm employs names C-3PO and Z-6PO in the same chapter! Darth Vader was replaced by Dark Vador in the French version.
The translation of the names of vessels poses the same problems: the translated version of the black Crusade of insane Jedi translated “ Star destroyer ” by “superdestroyer” to indicate long stellar destroyers of less than two kilometers, whereas this term is usually reserved for the vessels of more than five kilometers (“ Super Star Destroyer ” in original version). The vessel of Solo, in original version “ Millenium Falcon ”, was called “Millenium Condor”, “Millenium Falcon” and “Thousand-year-old Falcon”.
Small anecdote, in the credits of end of French version VHS of 1977 of a new hope , one can notice that Mark Hamill alias Luke Skywalker, is credited Luc Courleciel!
Catalog of films

The first films of the saga which were carried out from the start were numbered episodes IV, V and VI, the project having always been to carry out a trilogy describing the advent of the Empire. These three films thus constitute the original trilogy . The numbered episodes I, II and III were carried out well later (the use of the expressions “first trilogy” and “second trilogy” is thus rather confused as for knowing if one speaks about the chronological order of realization or the history). They are called in English the Prequel trilogy , trilogy Préquelle. The French fans invented the Néologisme prelogy to indicate them. Lastly, the original project also envisaged a third trilogy, but in a strict sense, this project was fallen through. The trilogies are presented here in the chronological order from an internal point of view to the universe.
Prelogy

Obi-Wan Kenobi, and its padawan Anakin Skywalker, is then in charge of its protection…

This last episode leads to the apocalypse: the Order Jedi, twenty-five times millenium, is destroyed, and Palpatine proclaims the Empire under the applause of a Senate is delirious about it. But for that, it is necessary to neutralize its protective field, whose transmitter is on the the forest Moon of Endor, place of life of the Ewoks, where whole legions of the best imperial troops await it. It is in this episode that Dark Vador kills its Master who was about to kill Luke. Unfortunately, he succumbs to his wounds (overcome a few moment before by Luke) thereafter…
Third Trilogy
Initially, George Lucas had envisaged three trilogies (nine films) but finally, it gave up writing a continuation: in fact, the history planned for episode VI such as it should have been to allow a continuation is very different from that which was finally carried out.The official site is explained as follows: At one period, it was a question that George needs nine films to tell the history of the Skywalker family. But having worked the course of the history more, it realized since good a long time that the history which it wished to share could hold in six two hour old films. The myth of the saga to the nine episodes, on the other hand, refuses to die… and it seems clear that he will never die. But George affirms that the history will be complete with six films, constituting only one saga. He even acknowledges not to have anything else to tell beyond the destruction of second Star of Death.
Many rumors presented possible scenarios for the third trilogy).
Elements characteristic of an episode of Star Wars
One finds in six films of the saga common elements:
- the logo of the 20th Century Fox in short version followed by the logo of Lucasfilm Limited. These two logos were replaced by more recent versions from the exit of the Special editions from episodes IV, V and VI. Put aside the logos of the two production companies, there is absolutely no credit of any kind during the credits of six films. The jingle of the 20th Century Fox is played while the two logos are with the screen. It is at the exit of Episode IV that this brass band, fallen at the time in disuse, was again re-used regularly by Fox; this music is, indeed, completely in the style (thus besides that in same the Tonalité of major B flat) of the soundtrack written by John Williams and in fact a kind of natural introduction.
- the text written in blue on black bottom “ A long ago in a remote, very remote galaxy…. ”: this sentence, for the spectator, makes it possible to underline the timeless character of the films ( A long ago ) as to make him accept the fact that the universe of Star Wars is different from ours and thus to make it there more easily return ( in a remote galaxy, very remote…. ). This sentence also points out the traditional sentence of introduction of some fairy tales ( It was once… ). One notes the presence of four points instead of the three Points of suspension envisaged by the typography. That it acts in the beginning of an error or not, the tradition was preserved.
- a yellow logo Star Wars which moves away to the screen on a spangled black bottom. This logo started to be used in the French version of films as from the exit of Episode I and was finally integrated into versions DVD of episodes IV, V and VI to replace the logo the STAR WARS of origin. The appearance of the logo Star Wars coincides with the beginning of the brass band common to the six episodes (which begin with characteristic B flat).
- the yellow text ravelling: this manner of presenting the situation in the galaxy to the spectator is in fact a homage to the series Flash Gordon which begin with identical text ravelling and which summarized the preceding episode.
- All the films of the saga begin from the same manner. First of all there is a plan external of a spaceship, almost always followed by an interior sight of this same vessel. In Episode I, it is about the Erasing VII , the republican shuttle which brings both Jedi on Naboo. In Episode II, it is about the private vessel of the sénatrice Padmé Amidala at the time of its arrival with Coruscant while in Episode III, it is about the hunter Eta-2 of Anakin Skywalker engaging in the space battle above this same planet. In the second trilogy, one sees the corvette Corrélienne Tantive IV pursued by the Dévastator in Episode IV. In the Episode V, it is about the imperial destroyer the Avenger releasing probes and to finish in episode VI, it is about the shuttle of Lambda class of the lord Dark Vador who moves about the second Star of Dead the .
- the shutters of transition enters the scenes: those are also a homage to the serials of Saturday morning whose Lucas was fan in his youth (one finds in particular these famous transitions in Willow , film written and produced by Lucas).
- the sentences “that the Force is with you” ( May the Force Be with you ), and “I have a bad presentiment” ( I cuts has bad feeling butt this ): first became famous through the whole world, the second is noticed less in the French version because of the lack of cohesion of the translations between various films (translated either by “I have a strange presentiment”, or by “that does not say anything to me which is worth”).
- the last scenes are only musical: it is still a homage to the serials of Saturday morning.
- the appropriations of end are always written in blue on a spangled black bottom. The soundtrack always consists of a medley of the major topics of the episode or series.
Places of turning
Episodes IV, V, and VI were filmed mainly with the Studios of Elstree, with Hertfordshire, in England. The temples Mayas de Tikal, with the Guatemala, were used as decoration with the Rebellious Base on Yavin IV, in episode IV while certain scenes of this episode fûrent filmed with the National park of the Valley of dead the. The scenes of outside on planet of ice Hoth in the episode V were filmed in Finse, in Norway. Lastly, the scenes on the the moon of Endor, for episode VI, were turned in the Parc of State de Humboldt Redwoods, in the Comté of Humboldt, in California.
Episode I was filmed in Leavesden Film Studios whereas the following episodes were it with Sydney, in Australia. A scene of episode II was turned to Seville, in Spain. In these two episodes, the Italian palate of Caserta was used as decoration with the palate of Theed on Naboo; other supposed scenes to be held on this planet were turned to the lake Como, in Italy also.
Lastly, the scenes which are held on the planet Tatooine were filmed in Tunisia for almost all films. For episode VI, the sand dunes of the desert of Yuma, in Arizona, were used as place of turning whereas this planet does not appear in the episode V.
At the same time the original trilogy and the prelogy asked for ten years of work (respectively 1973 - 1983 and 1995 - 2005), the production of each film lasting on average three years.
Studies
Lucas built its two trilogies on recurring principles in our civilization. The first trilogy can be comparable by its matter with a ancient Tragédie. The hero Anakin Skywalker, is a tragic hero, victim of his passions. Overflowed by its subsidiary love, its revolt against a system in bankruptcy, but especially by its love for beautiful the Padmé Amidala and its arrogance, as many passions as it cannot control, Anakin is gradually let involve towards the Obscure Side, and ends up destroying all it for what it always has work, and all those which it liked.The second trilogy, on the contrary, is built in a very academic way on the principle of Initiation. The hero, incomplete, must go to seek at the bottom of his obscure forces, to control them to be able to really overcome. Thus, after the victory partial of episode IV, Luke leaves on the planet Dagobah, a lost place, where as many symbols, such as the crucial episode of the cave, where he even clashes truly him (“this place is the cave of the evil” tells him Yoda, its Master), but also the resemblance to the decoration of the belly of the monster in which his/her friends at the same time find themselves indicates us that he carries out a Introspection. Episode VI, the Return of Jedi , is curiously copied on episode IV, with another “Star of Death”. But Luke has, this time, achieved its introspection, overcome its demons, which enables him to overcome the Emperor, not by the force, but by the renouncement.
Two scenes, each one at the end of each trilogy, illustrate the place and the back of the matter. In the first, Anakin arrives at the moment when Windu is on the point of completing Palpatine. Yielding to its anger, it slices the hand of its superior and rocks definitively on the obscure side. In the second, Luke Skywalker, which gave up killing his/her father is with the catches with the Emperor. Whereas this one is on the point of pulverizing it, Dark Vador intervenes and assassinates its Master, marking the final triumph on the clear side. One is thus during other, and they illustrate the difference between the destiny of the two characters.
One can see in Luke and Anakin the two types of heroes, confronted with the same task. Anakin is a tragic hero, he is victim of his passions. Luke on the contrary succeeds in overcoming them and becomes accomplished Jedi. Thus, far from being coarsely Manichéenne, the work, centered on the heroes, us (D) ensign the principle of the duality of the human being, posed by the Greek philosophers, but present in all the circles of cultures. Each man has a clear side and an obscure side, and this one, compared to passions, irrational and our “interior forces” must be controlled and harmonized with the clear side.
It will be noted that George Lucas rested, to build the narrative screen of the original trilogy of Star Wars , on the ideas of the anthropologist Joseph Campbell, in particular on his theory of the Monomythe, exposed in the book the Hero to the miles faces ( The Hero with has Thousand Faces ).

Pastiches and parodies of Star Wars
- There exists a film parodying Star Wars realized by Mel Brooks ( Spaceballs , title French: Insane History of space ).
- a wink with George Lucas, was carried out in a very preceded short film which imagines how G. Lucas could be inspired by writing the scenario of Star Wars: George Lucas in Coils .
- the editions Bragelonne, specialized in the science fiction and the Fantasy, recently made appear the parody the " Der" stars , of Adam Roberts, already known author of science fiction for its parodies of the Silmarillion and the Lord of the Rings .
- There exists a 30 minutes means-measuring realized by Steve Oedekerk, entitled Thumb Wars (the War of the inches). To the actors, they are inches with eyes and a mouth which play. All the Star Wars universe is parodied, as for example the hero who is called " Luke Groundrunner".
- the Us C Us made a mini series: GueGuerre of the stars (sketch in three parts recorded in public).
Minikeums carried out a cinékeum pastiche of Star Wars entitled GueGuerre of space .
- the Gottferdom Studio made a parody for their number of April 2006 in which Dark Vador is the TCM (Terrible World Plot) which wants to prevent the authors of the Lanfeust Mag from leaving the newspaper in time.
- Polaris Productions carried out a parodic short-measuring An Everyday Jedi presenting Jedi using to us its capacities to ends more than debatable.
- the chocolate company Ferrero presented in its chocolate eggs “Kinder Surprise” and “Kinder Maxi” in 2002 in the German-speaking countries a parody of Star Wars carried out in close cooperation with Lucasfilm, using the characters “Happy Hippos” of the designer André Roche and entitled “Hipperium” in allusion to the original title, “the Empire” being called “ Imperium ” in German. The advertizing films in animation 3D were carried out by Infinitevision.
- In the French series Kaamelott , Perceval goes on Tatooine and brings back a saber-laser (apparently that of Luke in episode VI) in the episode Stargate II .
- There exist two songs of rap west coast " Star Wars Gangsta Rap " , putting in scene the characters in the most famous passages of films.

Inspirations
George Lucas took as a starting point many works or real events to build her universe. However as all is conceptualized there, it is abusive to see in such or such element the criticism of a particular element of our world. Thus the Galactic Empire represents the Concept totalitarian mode.More generally, creation of what composes the universe of the Star Wars takes as a starting point cultures by our world, in order to create a feeling of familiarity. For example the architecture of the town of Theed on Naboo points out that of Venice, that of Geonosis points out Termitière S, that of Coruscant points out the Scrapes-ciels New York, etc It goes from there in the same way for the costumes, decorations, vehicles and other accessories. The vehicle of the Senator Lease Organa in Episode III, for example, is directly inspired by the AC Cobra.
Foundation of Isaac Asimov
The whole of the Trilogie is perhaps inspired (even for some plagiarized) by the work of Isaac Asimov, the trilogy of Fondation (written fifty years earlier). Jedi are the second founders, the Emperor is the Mule, Coruscant is Trantor, the capital of the Empire of Foundation. George Lucas forever confirmed this influence.
Fairy tales and mythology
George Lucas took as a starting point much the fairy tales, of the Greek Mythologie and Roman; one finds typical elements of them:- “It is very a long time in a remote galaxy…. ” near to the famous sentence “It was once,… ”.
- the fight manichéenne of the Good against the Evil.
- the need for the hero to cut itself of his childhood.
- the initiatory search to become knight.
- the research of the weapon of the father. (Thésée).
- companions of the traveller. (Argonautes).
- the captive princess retained by a guard (Dark Vador).
- the hero intended to kill his father (Oedipus) or to destroy the capacity of his/her grandfather (Siegfried).
Medieval Japan
George Lucas admits being himself inspired of the hidden Fortress of Akira Kurosawa; he knew Kurosawa besides since he has by-product (with Francis Ford Coppola) one of his films, Kagemusha ( Shade of the warrior ).Certain costumes are inspired by this time, as the dresses of Jedi which make think of the Kimono S and one can foresee the armor Samurai S through the aspect of the armor carried by Dark Vador or the imperial hulls of protection of Stormtroopers. This is particularly obvious by observing the sketches of pre-production of the first film (episode IV) showing the evolutions of the phase of design of these armours.
The philosophy of Jedi is, it, very near to that of the modern Budo , and in particular of the Aïkido, and the technique to strike by decladding the saber takes as a starting point the Iaido . The Force, energy bathing the Universe and binding the beings between them, approaches curiously to the notion of ki (vital energy) and the mystical experiments of the Shintoïsme, the Bouddhisme esoteric shingon and of the shugenja (Japanese mystical ascetics). Moreover we can note that Kenobi (Obi-wan kenobi) means " girdle and épée" in Japanese.
Roman Empire
In her new trilogy, George Lucas illustrated the passage of the democracy to a new form of monarchy (directed by a princeps usually titrates it used today being that of emperor). That of a republic to an empire. That where the authority passes from a senate to an emperor. The setting in scene of a character such as Palpatine points out the political game of Jules César, which passes from Consul to Dictator to Life by taking the control of the Senate, tracing in that the way for its adoptive nephew and wire Octave which is proclaimed Auguste with the head of the Empire in 27 av. J.C.The military apparatus appears being the key of the capacity. The army of Clones is created only to impose the Empire of the Galactic Sénat. It evokes very armed imperialist like were the Roman Legions. Architecture Naboo, its cupolas, arcs and channels, are inspired by those of the Byzantine Empire and by Venice.
IIIe Reich
Born just after the Second world war, Lucas took as a starting point the Nazisme to create its empire:- Stormtroopers represent the S, of the “perfect” troops of elite (since clônées) subjected to an iron discipline.
- the worship dedicated to the Emperor recalls the worship dedicated to the Führer.
- in the same way, the creation of a dictatorial empire controlling all, imitates the expansionist desire of the Nazi regime.
- in episode IV, the turrets of Millenium Falcon point out scenes of this war.
- the uniforms of the Imperial Officers are directly inspired by those of the Nazi Germany.
The the United States of America
For its new trilogy, Lucas took as a starting point the modern United States of America towards which it is very critical:- Alliance Inter-Corporations, the Federation of the Trade in particular, are an extrapolation of the lobbies which control the American and world policy. In that, the request for assistance of the Amidala queen in the phantom Threat is representative of the bureaucratic muddles fomented by the lobbies.
- the weakness of the Senate and its democratization are also an extrapolation of the American senate and the assembly of UNO (by paying attention one can notice besides that there exists a delegation of E.T to the republican Senate).
- a powerful army which can intervene everywhere in the Galaxy as on the world.
- the sentence of Anakin Skywalker “if you are not with me, you are my enemy” in Episode III points out that of George W. Bush concerning her war against terrorism. It with what Obi Wan rétorque that “only Sith reasons in the absolute”.
One can also notice an analogy between the separatist movement and the American Civil War which took place in the United States of 1862 to 1865 (11 states of the south had proclaimed their independence with respect to the United States, by forming the States Confédérés of America. This started the war which ended in the defeat of confederated and their return in the Union).
the Lord of the Rings of J.R.R. Tolkien
George Lucas belonged to the generation whose the Lord of the Rings was the book worship. It took again a great number of elements of the book of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien in its trilogy:- the Single Ring and the obscure side of the Force are both sources of power, but are also dangerous traps.
- the “under-creation” of an original world having its own races, its own places, its own history and its own languages.
- the character of Obi-Wan (in the old trilogy) inspired by that of Gandalf, both of wise old men to the great capacities (but not making use of it, they are more mentors), vêtus of a large gray coat and a beard. One can notice the similarity of the two characters when Obi-Wan is let kill by Dark Vador and returns in phantom, and Gandalf which is dropped in the abyssals zone after its combat against Balrog and its return as a white wizard.
- the general screen of the history points out that of the Seigneur of the Rings. A young innocent hero (Frodon/Luke Skywalker) with the preset destiny which escapes to him. Soon he must then leave his quiet life and his province isolated (the County/Tatooine) to achieve his mission, helped by an old wise mentor (Gandalf/Obi-Wan) and joined by an adventurer who will appear of a great help (Aragorn/Han Solo). He will have to fight against the large Master of the evil (Sauron/l' Empereur) and his right-hand man (Saroumane/Dark Vador) and to destroy the absolute weapon (the Ring Unique/L' Black Star).
Other inspirations for the costumes
The royal costumes and hairstyles which the queens of Naboo carry seem largely inspired by the costumes of pageantry which formerly the Indian women and sovereign Chinese carried. The white make-up is also more similar. The majority of the costumes used for the scenes taking place in the farm where Luke was collected, are costumes counterparts of clothing worn by the people of the rural regions of the African horn (Abyssinye, Sudan, Kemet, Egypt Negro-Antique).
Flash Gordon
The Space operated in general and work in Cartoon of Alex Raymond, in particular, inspired George Lucas. The Flash Gordon (or Guy the Flash in VF), Serial S of the years 1930, interpreted by Buster Crabbe, Olympic ex-champion of swimming become actor, had created a base of fans who found the galactic adventures of their hero with a character in flesh and bone. One can detect a parallel between the emperor Ming and the Emperor of the Star Wars ; between the various areas of the planet Mongo and planets where the confrontations of proceed the Star Wars : Arboria with the luxuriant vegetation whose inhabitants built their dwellings in the trees (Ewoks) and Frigia, desert of ice which could have been used as decoration with the Empire counter-attacks .
