Staphisaigre

The staphisaigre (Delphinium staphisagria) is an annual or bi-annual herbaceous plant of the family of the Renonculacées.

Other common nouns: Dauphinelle staphisaigre, grass with the lice, bleach on grass with goutteux, wild grape.

Description

The palmatilobate and deeply cut out sheets are hairy on the two faces. The floral pole, covered with spread out hairs, measurement from 30 to 100 cm height and carries many flowers dark blue. The perianth of the flower consists of five Sépale S petaloid, whose superior ends in a short spur. Flowering takes place from May to June.

Habitat

The staphisaigre pushes in the arid lawns of the Mediterranean region. In France, it is a threatened and protected species.

Surface of distribution

The staphisaigre finds all around the Mediterranean basin, like with the Portugal and in the islands the Canaries.

Use

As much of others Dauphinelle S, the staphisaigre is very toxic and contains several diterpenic Alcaloïde S such as the Delphinine and the Chasmanine. Its seeds have properties Insecticide S and Parasiticide S. they are used to prepare pomades or decoctions against the Pou external X and other parasites. The plant is also employed in homeopathic medicine.
