Stamps of Polynesia Frenchwoman 2006

This article counts the stamps of French Polynésie emitted in 2006 by the Office of the stations and telecommunications (OPT).

General information

The stamps are marked “Polynesia French RF Post offices 2006” (name of the community/French Republic/postal operator/year of emission) and a facial value in Franc peaceful (XPF).

They serve to free the outgoing mail from this Pays as overseas.

For each stamp, the text brings back following information:
  • date of emission, facial value and description,
  • forms of sale,
  • artists originators and genesis of the project,
  • demonstration first day,
  • date of withdrawal, pulling and sales figures,

as well as the useful informations for a given emission.

January

Chinese amulet: Fleur of lotus

January 30th, is emitted a stamp of 130 XPF for the Chinese New year representative of flowers of lotus and a building of Chinese inspiration.

The stamp of 36 × 26 mm is drawn by Cédric Sengues and is printed in Sérigraphie in sheet of 25 specimens.

February

Messages of the heart

February 14th, day of the St. Valentine's day, are emitted two stamps in the shape of heart with 60 XPF (blue) and 90 XPF (pink).

The stamps of 36 × 36 mm are printed in Héliogravure in sheet of 10 stamps.

March

Women in Polynesia

March 8th, are emitted two stamps of 60 XPF and 90 XPF on the “women in Polynesia”, within the framework of the international Journée of the Women. Two paintings used represent a sitted woman and one on a beach.

Realized starting from two tables of Pascale Taurua, the stamps of 26 × 36 mm are printed in offset in sheet of 25 stamps.

April

Maupiti

April 26th, is emitted a tourist Timbre of 500 XPF presenting a landscape seen of the ocean of the island of Maupiti, which belongs to the islands of the Company. This representation is resulting from the statements of a forwarding of 1823 of the marquis Ernest de Blosseville. Engraved then in Paris by Ambroise Tardieu, engraver with printing works De Rémond, it is present in the report/ratio which writes Jacques Arago for the Academy of Science

Engraving is resulting from the collection of Christian Beslu and regravée by Jacky Larrivière for an impression in Taille-douce. The stamp of format 48 × 27 mm is conditioned in sheet of 25 specimens.

May

Marchionesses: the Washington islands

May 27th, are emitted two stamps and a block gathering them devoted to the history of discovered Marquesas Islands. The emission is titrated “the islands Washington”, one of the names given to this Archipel by one of the first Western sailors having discovered them. They are baptized Marquises by the Spaniard Álvaro de Mendaña, since 1595, then quickly visited by James Cook in 1774. In 1791, Joseph Ingraham, commander of a tradind ship, believes to discover a new island and baptizes the island Ua Huka name of George Washington, first president of the the United States. Thereafter, of the charts indicate the North-western group of the Marchionesses of the name of “Washington islands”. The 60 XPF represents a woman and a man natives and the 130 XPF a sailing ship of the 18th century.

The stamps of 2,6 × 3,6 cm are illustrated old engravings and the bottom of the block represents an extract of sea charts. The whole is printed in offset in sheet of twenty specimens and block of two different stamps.

The emission coincides with the organization of an international philatelic exposure to Washington, in the United States, from May 27th to June 3rd.

June

Scene of the daily life

June 6th, is emitted a stamp of 300 XPF on a “scene of the daily life”, in fact the festive meal, accompanied by music.

The illustration is a painting of L. Shesher. The stamp of format 4,8 × 3,6 cm is printed in offset in sheet of ten specimens.

Birds of Polynesia

June 21st, two stamps of 250 XPF are emitted representing two species of birds endemic and threatened of disappearance of the Archipel of Tuamotu. They are the Gallicombe of the Company ( Gallicolumba will erythroptera ) and the Bécasseau of Tuamotu ( Prosobonia cancellata ).

The two stamps of 3,6 × 2,6 cm are printed in offset in sheet of twenty-five units.

July

Heiva

July 19th, are emitted three stamps for the organization of the 124e Heiva with Tahiti, of 1st at July 21st, 2006. They account for three of the artistic and sporting tests of this Polynesian cultural event: races of Dugout S on the 90 XPF, to raise it stone on the 130 XPF and the dances on the 190 XPF. These last tests are practiced by the individuals of the two sexes, and is represented by a woman on the stamp.

The photographs are page layouts by the Office of the stations and telecommunications and printed in offset. The stamps of 2,6 × 3,6 cm are printed in sheet of twenty-five specimens.

August

Frangipanier

August 23rd, is emitted a stamp scent on the frangipanier. Selected photography shows flowers of this tree.

The stamp of 2,6 × 3,6 cm is conditioned in sheet of twenty-five specimens.

September

World day of tourism

September 22nd, at the time of the world Day of tourism, are emitted three stamps of 40,90 and 130 XPF. The 40 XPF presents two Tiki stone. On the 90 XPF, a mother and her child look at a cascade in the forest. The 130 XPF is devoted to the local arts and crafts: clothing, jewel, and hats and wicker baskets.

The photographs are of Philippe Bacchet. The stamps of 2,6 × 3,6 cm are printed in offset in sheet of twenty-five.

Tourism in Polynesia

September 22nd, at the time of the world Day of tourism, is also emitted a notebook of twelve stamps of 90 illustrated XPF of landscapes and sites of French Polynesia, sights natural, tourist, economic and hotel of the territory.

The stamps are printed in offset.

October

Painters

October 25th, four stamps reproducing of works of Polynesian painters are emitted. On the 60 XPF, “the throwing the javelin” whose participants are seen back, is a painting of Monique Garnier Bissol. The 90 XPF presents “the life of the market”, in particular a fruit stall, realized by Albert Luzuy. “Quay of the islands” on the 100 XPF is signed Gilbert Chaussoy, wire of Joseph Chaussoy. Lastly, the portraitist Olivier Louzé presents a “Vahine” vêtu of a Paréo orange and being held in front of a blue bottom on the stamp of 190 XPF.

Four works are reproduced on stamps of 2,7 × 4,8 cm horizontal or vertical, printed in offset in sheet of ten specimens.

Pulling is of 200.000 stamps for the three first and 80.000 for “Vahine”. 20.000 specimens of each stamp are reserved for the sale in Metropolitan France.

November

Gauguin

November 8th, are emitted two stamps of 60 and 130 XPF reproducing two works Paul Gauguin, which lived the twelve last of its life in the Polynesian archipelagoes. They were carried out in 1898 and 1899 whereas the artist works the techniques of Gravure on wood. The 60 XPF represents Femmes, animals and foliage and the 130 XPF a Porteur feï .

Both Estampe S preserved at the museum of the fine arts of Rheims are engraved by Claude Andréotto (60 XPF) and Pierre Albuisson (130 XPF). The stamps of 3,6 × 2,6 cm are printed in Taille-douce in sheet of twenty-five specimens.

The emission coincides with the philatelic Salon of autumn of Paris, from November 8th to 11th 2006.

December

Drawings of children

December 13rd, is emitted a stamp of 90 XPF reproducing a drawing of child (written in the plural on the stamp: “drawings of children”). A woman dances, registered in the sun.

The stamp of 3,6 × 2,6 cm is printed in offset in sheet of twenty-five.
