Sremska Kamenica
Sremska Kamenica , in Serb Cyrillic СремскаКаменица, in Croatian Srijemska Kamenica, Hungarian Kamanc, and German Kamenitz is a town of Serbia located in the autonomous province of Voïvodine. It belongs to the municipality of Petrovaradin in the agglomeration of Novi Sad, district of Bačka Southerner. In 2002, it counted 11.205 inhabitants.
The city is located in the area of Syrmie, on the slopes North of the Fruška Gora and at the edge of the the Danube.
History
Sremska Kamenica is mentioned for the first time in historical documents in 1237. At that time the city belonged to the Royaume of Hungary.
At the 16th century, the city was conquered by the Othoman .
The city passed then between the hands of the Habsbourgs and, after the dislocation of the Austria-Hungary in 1918, it belonged to the Royaume of Serb, the Croats and the Sloveniens, who, in 1929, became the Royaume of Yugoslavia.
