Sporades islands
The islands Sporades are a Greek Archipel of the Aegean Sea, with broad of Volos. They draw their names from the adjective will sporas (with the genitive sporados ) which means in Greek old " scattered, disséminé" , like are islands which constitute this unit. In Greek modern: Σποράδες.
Principal island: Skiathos. Named thus (of seed in Greek) because of the erratic character of their dispersion. This archipelago extends to the east and south-east from the peninsula from the Pélion to which they were attached at the time prehistoric. It includes/understands eleven islands including four inhabited. Skópelos, Alonissos and Skyros is the principal other islands. A national maritime park surrounds Alonissos and gathers seven islands.
Bond
In the Pacific, an archipelago bears the same name for the same reason, the equatorial Sporades islands, whose principal island is Christmas.
