Spokane
Spokane is an American city of the state of Washington, located at the east of Seattle and the North-East of Portland. It is the chief town of the Comté of Spokane. Located at the edge of the river of the same name, the city is installed on the Plateau of Columbia, at an altitude of 610 m, in the East of the State of which it is the second most populated city, but also the fourth city of the North of the west coast. The population of the urban surface is of 446.706 inhabitants, and if one included the area of Coeur of Awl, separated from Spokane by the border between the state of Washington and that of the Idaho, the population is carried to nearly 600.000 inhabitants.
History
In 1873, James NR. Glover repurchased the area of the falls Spokane Falls for $1600, with two men, Seth Scranton and JJ Downing. They had built a sawmill there, and had invited the colonists of the Oregon to join them, without much success. In 1877 the soldiers who fought against the Indians of Pierced-nose Indians spent the winter there. They established there in the east the fort of Heart Awl, which made it possible Glover to sell food and goods to the soldiers. Their presence encouraged families to settle there. The growth of Spokane leaps in 1881, when the Railroad of the Northern Pacific arrived at Spokane.
In 1889, a fire destroyed the retail park of the center of the city. A failure in the fire protection system made it possible the flames to be propagated in all the city. On the whole, 27 blocks of houses fûrent destroyed. However, the city continued to develop. In 1892, the company Great Northern railroad installed a goods station, thus supporting the access to the area, by the city. The deposit was finishes in 1902. Only the vestige of this one is the clock of Riverfront Park, which was at the time most important of all North-West.
In 1909, the workmen of the city put themselves in strike. The authorities made put in prisons hundreds of employers, but the boycott engaged by the federation of the minors of the West put an end to the conflict.
The name " Spokane" , comes from the name of an Indian tribe (the tribue Spokane), this word means in their language: " wire of Soleil".

The city has a continental Climat, Semi-aride, at the very dry summers, and with heavy snowfalls in winter.
Transport
The city is crossed of Is in West by the Interstate 90 and U.S. Road 2. it is regularly the prey of stoppers, which with led the authorities to build a Northern skirting, U.S. Road 395 NSC, often called North Spokane Corridor.
The city is served by the International airport of Spokane, and by the Amtrak, of which it is an important crossroads.
