SpamCop
SpamCop is a free service of information on the Pourriel.
It also allows the users recorded to subject a Pourriel with the heading complete to analyze it, find the address and/or the domain name of the origin of the message, in order to announce this message to the service deceives of the field concerned. SpamCop also proposes to preserve a trace of the Pourriel at ends of statistics. The effectiveness is however relative taking into account the speed of evolution of the sources of Pourriel.
Heading analyzes
The main issue of the Pourriel is that the address email of the transmitter can be forged, and in practice it always false, whimsical or is usurped. It should indeed be known that almost all the fields of the heading of a message can be modified by program. However one can normally find in the heading of the message the Adresse IP of the mail server who is at the origin of the spam. The difficulty is that the message could forward by multiple intermediate waiters (called relay of transport) which add each one their own heading, in the form " Received: form xxx.xxx.net (111.111.111.111) (serveur1) ". The address of the waiter which really emitted the Spam is theoretically the first of the chain (provided that it comes from a field different from your own mail server, in this case he is necessary to take the following address). It is the only address which is only with difficulty flasifiable and which it is advisable to retain like probable source of Pourriel. Then to find the name of the owners of the machines corresponding at this address, SpamCop consults the database which gives the correspondence between address IP and domain name, by using the tool WHOIS on the various bases (RIPE-NCC in Europe for example) and announces the Pourriel to the address deceives of the accused fields.
