Solar lottery

solar Loterie is a Romance of Philip K. Dick published in 1955 under the title of Solar Lottery . It is translated into French and published in 1968 with the editions CHOSE. It is the first novel published of Dick, it treats topics which one finds in his following work.

In its principal screen, this novel describes a political system where the human beings are born with a chart from being able being able to enable them to become " Leader of Jeu" , or Master of the solar system. The universe is judicious being governed by a random system based on the algorithm Minimax worked out by John Von Neumann. Constantly, the number of a ticket can be drawn with the fate at the time of what one calls " The change of Bouteille" , started by the movement of particles subatomic and governed by the principle of Uncertainty.

The owner of the ticket from which the number was drawn with the fate then obtains the right to control the world, helped by the telepathic ones which protect it… because in this world, the assassination of the Master of the World is encouraged!

The last sentence of the novel is splendid: " It is not the animal instinct which returns to us feverish and dissatisfied. I will say to you what it is: it is the highest goal of the man - the need to grow, progress… to discover new things… to advance, to extend, reach new territories, new experiments, to include/understand and food while evolving/moving. To reject the routine, to break with the monotony of the practice, to go from the front one. Of never arrêter."
