Socialist Union of the popular forces

The socialist Union of the popular forces ( USFP , in Arabic: rear RTL الاتحادالاشتراكيللقواتالشعبية) is a Moroccan political party born into 1975 of a scission with the National union of the Popular Forces ( UNFP ). Its current secretary-general is Mohamed Elyazghi.

This party claims ideas of the left , mainly on the points of social justice, and the combat against the inequalities. However on the plan of progressionism, there remains rather timid because of the social Conservatisme ambient of the Moroccan company.

At the time of the legislative elections of the September 27th 2002, the party obtains fifty seats at the Parliament. It is the majority party. It belongs to the government coalition with the Parti Istiqlal.

At the time of the legislative elections of the September 7th 2007, the party obtains only thirty eight seats at the Parliament, and arrives at the fifth position. The majority party at the time of this poll is the Parti Istiqlal.

History

Phase of the fight for independence and construction of the political scene

  • 1972 : Rupture of the administrative Commission of the UNFP with the bureaucracy trade unionist and assumed choice of the political action and democratic. The UNFP requires the election by the vote for all of a constituent National Assembly.

  • 1973 : After the sending of parcel bombs with Mohamed Elyazghi and Omar Benjelloun, many militants of the UNFP will be also translated in front of the military Tribunal of Kénitra for breach of security of the State.
  • 1975 : “Democratic Choice”. Extraordinary congress which indicates Abderrahim Bouabid, first secretary of the Party.
  • 1975 (on December 18th): Assassination in Casablanca of Omar Benjelloun, one of the principal founders of the Party, its press agencies and organizer of the action to democratize Central trade-union (UMT).
  • 3 days after the assassination of O. Benjelloun, on December 21st, 1975: Creation of Ittihadia Youth.
  • 1981 (on June 20th): Dizzying increases in the prices of the food products of first need. General strike repressed hard in Casablanca. The persons in charge of two organizations (USFP and CDT) are stopped and their besieged buildings. The press of the USFP (" Al Moharrir" and " Libération") is prohibited.
  • 1981 (on September 5th): the Political office of the USFP publicly rejects by an official statement acceptance by Morocco of the organization of a referendum of self-determination in the Western Sahara (resolution which had been adopted in Nairobi by the Summit of the OAU): Arrest of the Political office of the USFP, with at its head Abderrahim Bouabid, Mohamed Elyazghi and Mohamed Lahbabi.

Preparatory phase and consolidation of the dialog

  • 1984 : Memorandum presented to Feu SM Hassan II by the USFP against the plan of structural adjustment imposed by the IMF.

  • 1984 : Behavior in Casablanca of the 4th national congress of the USFP.
  • 1989 : Behavior of the 5th congress. Ask constitutional revision.

Phase of opening

  • 1991 : Democratic proclamation jointly introduced with the party of Istiqlal to Feu the King Hassan II, preaching an institutional rebalancing.

  • 1992 : Death of Abderrahim Bouabid. Abderrahman Youssoufi becomes first secretary of the USFP, and Mohamed Elyazghi, first assistant secretary.
  • 1993 : Creation of the democratic block “Koutla” (USFP, Istiqlal, PS, OADP).
  • 1998 : Government of Alternation directed by Abderrahman Youssoufi.
  • 2001 : 6th congress of the USFP.
  • 2003 : Resignation of Abderrahman Youssoufi.
  • 2005 : 7th congress of the USFP and election of Mohamed Elyazghi as a First Secretary.
  • 2006 : 2nd extraordinary congress of the USFP to conform to the new clauses of the new code of the political parties.
