The dunnart with striped head ( Sminthopsis will macroura ) is a small marsupial of Australia

Desccription

Its overall length is of 15.5 to 20 cm, the length of the body is from 7.5 to 10 cm, that of the tail from 8 to 10 cm. Its weight varies between 15 and 25 grams. It resembles a small mouse with a black band traced between the ears and the end of the muzzle. The tail is stuffed a little at the base, finer with the tail.

Distribution and habitat

One finds it through all the center of Australia since the Pilbara in Western Australia, the center of the Territoire of North, the west and the center of the Queensland, of the south in the western north of the southernmost Australia, in the north and the west of the News-Wales-of-South. He lives in the sandy grounds of the semi-desert zones.

Reproduction

The period of reproduction goes from July to February. the period of gestation is 11 days and the 6 to 8 small of each range spend 40 days in the marsupium. They are separated at 70 days. There are two ranges per annum.
