Small the Thing is an Autobiographical novel writes by Alphonse Daudet and published for the first time in 1868.

Summary

The first part tells the history of Daniel Essette, wire of an industrial rich person who will fall into the bankruptcy and will leave a city of Languedoc to settle in Lyon in a house more than uncomfortable. Daniel Essette, of leaving to work as pawn in a college from where it gained there the nickname of Petit Thing . Following a tragic history it of leaving the college and went to settle in his brother in Paris.

In the second part, after her reference of the school, the young man, accommodated in Paris by his/her brother, tells his beginnings in the literary life. He made the meeting of a woman whom he loved. He writes its first book the pastoral comédire , which was never sold but with one specimen. A history of love, cheatings and lies with the " ram premier" made begin a life with this one as actor in the suburbs of bets. Daniel was sad of this life. One day his/her brother found it to bring back it near him, unfortunately the madnesses of Small the Thing had covered them with debts and had made resign the brother who was the only source of money.
