Small Mountain of the Jura
The Petite Mountain of the Jura is a natural area located at the south-west of the solid mass of the the Jura, located between the Revermont with the west, the Département of Ain in the south and the Solid mass of the the High-Jura in the east, from which it is separated by the throats from the Ain.
Geography
The Small Mountain forms integral part of the Jurassic Massif, its altitude varies from 400 to 841 Mr. the relief is tormented enough because the plates are deeply notched by Valouse, a small river which is thrown in the Ain, its principal affluent, Valouson, and by another affluent of the Ain, Suran.The Small Mountain extends on the cantons from Arinthod, Orgelet and Saint-Julien-on-Suran, it is a particularly interesting sector on the plans ecological and biological, protected within the framework from the Réseau Natura 2000.
Economy
Formerly, the Small Mountain was primarily agricultural, and the winter, each peasant practiced the tournery on Bois. Nowadays, the craft industry of wood tends has to disappear, sometimes replaced by the plastic industry (like Smoby in Arinthod).Agriculture produces pigmeat and bovine, and especially of the milk intended for the manufacture of the cheese of name of controlled origin Comté, worked out in the Fruitière S of the chief towns of canton and Aromas.
