Small-Rosselle

Small-Rosselle ( German Kleinrosseln in ) is a common French located in the department of the the Moselle. It is localized in the natural area of the Warndt and in the basin of life of the Moselle-is.

Geography

Small-Rosselle is located at the German border, delimited by the Rosselle (river). On the other side of the border is the German city Large-Rosselle.

History

Small-Rosselle most of its history with the Large-Rosselle town of shares. Indeed, the town of Rosselle is founded in 1290 and separation in two distinct communes is made only in 1326. These two cities are separate only by one river, the Rosselle.

During various wars between the Germany and the France, Small-Rosselle was either French, or German. At the time of the Second world war, Small-Rosselle thus formed part of the annexed zone. The inhabitants were then evacuated during a few months in Charente, with Mouthiers-on-Boëme.

Today, Small-Rosselle is twinned with the towns of Large-Rosselle (Germany), Mouthiers-on-Boëme (Charente), and Spresiano (Italy).

Since the discovery of coal in 1856 by the family Wendel, the mining exploitation was the economic main activity of the city. It was marked by several industrial catastrophes. But today the company owner of all the mine shafts, the Carboniferous of the Lorraine coalfields (LORRAINE AREA), is closing completely. The mine shafts today are not any more exploited but are preserved within a framework museographic. A long time in gestation and work, this memory of the mining inheritance and the " Mouths noires" is inaugurated in 2006 pennies the name " Mine museum of the Wendel" Square;.
