Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (or SOM ) is a cabinet of architects, whose seat is located at Chicago, and who was created in 1936 by Louis Skidmore and Nathaniel Owings, before the arrival of John Merill in 1939. The first cabinet opened its doors with New York in 1937. SOM belongs to the most important companies of architecture of the the United States. The vocation first of the company was the construction of commercial buildings, and the cabinet is at the origin of scrapes-ciels knell box (scrapes-ciels with dominant glazed) which are very widespread nowadays.
