Singer (undertaken)

The company Singer (delivery saingère ) was established under the name I.M. Singer & Co. in 1851 by Isaac Merrit Singer. Mainly known for its sewing machines, it was famous Singer Manufacturing Company in 1865, then The Singer Company in 1963. In the beginning, all its products were manufactured in its factories with New York.

History

Frederick Gilbert Bourne (1851-1919), as a president of the company to the turning of the 20th century, set up one of the first true Entreprise S world by taking its reference marks through the whole world, by establishing centers of services and distribution and by building factories in several countries. The general headquarter of the company was with the Singer Building, conceived by the architect Ernest Flagg, who also designed two residences of countryside for Bourne. Built in 1906 in New York during the presidency of Bourne, the Singer tower (now destroyed) was at the time largest round the world tour.

Diversification

In the years 1960, the company diversified by acquiring the companies Friden Calculating Machine Company in 1965, Packard Bell Electronics in 1966 and General Precision Equipment Corporation in 1968 including Librascope and The Kearfott Company.
In 1987, Kearfott are restructured, Kearfott Guidance & Navigation Corporation is sold in Astronautics Corporation off America in 1988. Division Electronic systems is taken again by GEC-Marconi in 1990 and is re-elected GEC-Marconi Electronic Systems while the division of the machines to coudres is sold in 1989 with Semi-Tech Microelectronics, a company of Toronto.

Current location

Today the company manufactures a a whole product range of consumption divided into 4 categories:
  • Seam with inter alia sewing machines and embroidering electronic.
  • Sharpening with inter alia domestic irons and active tables.
  • Cleaning with inter alia cleaners vapors and vacuum cleaners.
  • Electric household appliances with inter alia microwawe ovens and coffee machines.

Singer PLEASE belongs to the group Worldwide which also has the marks Pfaff and Husqvarna Viking since February 2006. PLEASE Worldwide is the fusion of American Kohlberg & Company owner of the Singer mark which repurchased Swedish VSM Group AB, the head office of the marks Pfaff and Husqvarna Viking.
