Sinéad O\' Connor
Sinéad Marie Bernadette O' Connor (born the December 8th 1966) is a singer and Irish compositrice . Its resumption of the song Nothing Compares 2 U made up by Prince was his greater success into individual. It is one of the largest Irish singers with Enya.
Biography
Sinéad O' Connor was born with Dublin in 1966. It owes its name (Sinéad de Valera), with the wife of the Irish president Éamon de Valera and in holy Bernadette of Doors. She belongs to a phratry of five children, she is the sister of Joseph, Eimear, John and Eoin. Joseph O' Connor is now a famous novelist.The father of Sinéad, Jack O' Connor, is a lawyer who gives up his trade to become engineer, and his/her mother, Marie O' Connor, are housewife. They divorce when Sinéad celebrates its eight years. The oldest children will live in their mother, and are, according to the dires of the singer, subjected to frequent physical abuses. The song Fire one Babylon recalls this period.
In 1979, Sinéad O' Connor leaves his/her mother and leaves food with her father and his new wife. But its flights and its school absenteeism oblige his/her father to place it in a Catholic school, directed by the sisters of Our-Lady-of-the-Charity. She learns the writing and the music there.
In 1983, his/her father sends it to the school of Newtown, a less strict boarding school. With the assistance and the encouragement of his professor of Irish language, Joseph Falvy, it records a demonstration of four songs, with two recoveries and two of his own songs which will appear later on its first album.
In 1984, thanks to a classified, it meets Columb Farrelly. Together, they recruit other members and form a group called Your Tone Macoute (baptized name of a Haitian militia). It then follows the group to Waterford, then with Dublin and gives up its schooling.
February 10th 1985, his/her mother dies in an car accident. Sinéad O' Connor is embanked in spite of its reports/ratios tended with this one. Some time later, it leaves the group, and leaves to London.
In 1991, it Marie first once, with its producer, John Reynolds, with whom it have a son, Jack. In 2001, it marries the journalist Nicholas Sommerlad, which it divorces one year later. It will have successively a girl, then a son, Shane, with the producer Dónal Lunny, and the last wire, Yeshua Francis Neil, in 2006 with its former associate, Frank Bonadio. She resides today at the periphery of Dublin.
Career
It signs its first musical contract with the recording company Ensign Records. It records its first song Heroine , coécrite with The Edge, the guitarist of U2. In 1987, it records its first album: The Lion and the Cobra , then I C Not Want What I Haven' T Got . Its voice, its look, its political commitment makes of it an artist with share, nonconformist. Its second album meets one big hit since it very quickly becomes gold disc.
The song Nothing Compare 2 U , beach central of the album, is written by Prince and the video clip is filmed by John Maybury. This individual becomes number 1 in several countries. In Ireland it reaches the first place in July 1990 and remains there during eleven weeks. He is a success similar to the the United Kingdom and in Germany.
In 1990 also, it takes part in the gigantic concert The Wall Live In Berlin, organized by Roger Waters, former member of Pink Floyd and author of the concept-album The Wall entirely rejoué this evening in front of 300.000 people the shortly after the fall of the Wall. In 1991, it contributes to the homage paid to Elton John by interpreting several of its titles. In 1992, it works with Peter Gabriel. In 1993, it contributes to the original soundtrack of the film In the name of the father , arranged by U2. In 1994, it leaves a new album Universal Mother , then Fire one Babylon . In 2000, it records Faith and Courage , then takes again the great classics of the Irish traditional songs in two CD. It then decides to announce its withdrawal of the music scene to devote itself to its studies and in particular to the Irish language.
November 8th 2006, it records however a new album of music reggae.
Political commitment
It was at the origin of several scandals by being opposed to the Roman Catholic church and by tearing the photograph of the pope Jean-Paul II on television. In 1997, it accepted death threats concerning a concert envisaged in Israel. She will not play, concerned of the safety of her family. On the other hand, the same year, it gives a concert of a great sobriety to the Paléo Festival of Nyon.In the same way, it stated some controversial statements concerning the WILL GO, which was worth sour criticisms to him.
