Shine of Haro

Luis Menéndez de Haro Sotomayor (born with Valladolid in 1598 - deceased with Madrid in 1661) was there a Général and Spanish Politicien . He was the son of Diego de Haro, marquis of Carpio, and Doña Francisca de Guzmán, sister of Gaspar de Guzmán, count d' Olivares.

He enters to the court of the Spanish Royal family while being under the protection of his uncle, which he will succeed the station of Valido (confidant of the king) when Olivares is made expel in 1643. He however never succeeded in sitting a notoriety and an influence as thorough as those of his uncle, mainly because of the fact that Philippe IV also taken María de Agreda like confidante. This one convainquit its monarch less and less to give importance besides to the valido, station which will be to remove little time afterwards.

Shine of Haro was one of the chief negotiators of the Traité of the Pyrenees (signed on the island of the Pheasants) in 1659 vis-a-vis Jules Mazarin in particular. There it could not avoid désavantageux agreements for the Spain, owing to the fact that it could not either make an alliance anti-French with Oliver Cromwell, then Lord Protecteur of the the United Kingdom.

Its more important fact of weapons was the repression of the rise of Catalan nationalism and the recovery of Barcelona in 1652. On the contrary, the war of the Portuguese restoration in which it took part was a total failure. Shine of Haro personally led the Spanish troops to the battle of tired Líneas de Elvas in 1659, which was a demolished cuisante.
