Luis Carrero Blanco (Santoña, March 4th 1903 - Madrid, December 20th 1973) was a statesman and a Spanish Admiral .
In 1936, when the Spanish Civil war bursts, it was behind the republican lines and had to cross the face in order to join the nationalist camp, where it served in the marine during the conflict. After the victory of the nationalists and the beginning of the dictatorship of Francisco Franco it became one of his closer collaborators as well as the director of the naval operations. It is known as that it was adverse at the entry of Spain at the sides of the Axe during the Second world war, in opposition to the phalangists. Itself was in fact a monarchist.
Become minister in 1957, vice-admiral in 1963 then admiral in 1966 he becomes vice-president of the council of 1967 with 1973.
It reached its higher position when it was named Prime Minister of Spain in June 1973, making of him the probable successor of Free.
It was finally killed with Madrid by four Basque freedom fighters of ETA who exploded a bomb located in a tunnel dug under the street at the passage of his limousine armor-plated at the time of his return of the mass. The car flies away with the top of the Church and attérit on the roof of a building. This assassination (called Operación Ogro ) was in reprisal of the massive executions by the mode of political opponents of which many Basque.
This operation gives rise to a slogan largely stressed during the processions protestors of the years 1970: " Higher, higher than Carrero Blanco."
A popular joke in Spain also makes him " the first astronaut espagnol".
