The sexual orientation of a person, sometimes named sexual Preference , characterizes the object of the Désir S in love or erotic of a person. The sexual orientation of a person is classified most of the time according to the sex of the desired partners:

hétérosexuelle, if it relates to people of the other sex,
homosexual, if it relates to people of the same sex,
bisexual, if it relates indifferently to people of the two sexes,
asexual, if there is absence of sexual slope,
autosexuelle, if she relates to oneself.

There is no to date indication which would exist an sexual orientation independently of the circumstances. The principal sexual orientations indicated above are observed in the whole of the animal kingdom. The persistent assumption of genetic predispositions towards such or such sexual orientation remains discussed even if one can realize that there exists often a homosexual phratry in the same family. The influence of the medium remains for the moment an assumption more often evoked.

The sexual orientation, that its origin innate and/or is acquired, is allotted by the individual to his personal feelings and designs (see Rationalization); the sexual behavior of a person can be different from her orientation. Thus, for example, the sexual abstinence is not always the consequence of an asexual orientation. People can practice a sexuality different from their orientation if they are forced there by mainly social circumstances (tender with an authority real or imagined) or material (imprisonment in unisexe medium). It was not shown yet if it were possible to modify the sexual orientation of a person by the means of the influence (Psychothérapie, authority, etc), in spite of many attempts during the centuries.
