The Serio is a river of Lombardy, in Italy. It sprinkles the provinces of Bergamo and Crémone: after a course of 124 km, it is thrown in the Adda in Bocca di Serio in the south of Crema.
Its name is probably of origin préromaine, and would mean “flow”, “running”. In Latin, it named Sarius , which gave Serio by Apophonie of sar- in ser- .
It gave its name to many localities which it sprinkles (Villa di Serio, Fiorano Al Serio, Orio Al Serio, Seriate, Mornico Al Serio, Cologno Al Serio), with the valley which bears its name (Valle Seriana), like with the department of Serio. It finds its source with 2.500m altitude with the Passo del Serio on the Monte Torena (2 911 m), located in the southernmost buttresses of the the Alps.
